12-21-2012 Art Mobbing Shock the Karma
Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. Academic comparisons of various calendrical systems give the Mayans a low 'C' at best.
The only thing the Mayans did was leave lots and lots of records that survived to modern times. Many of the records are contradictory. Many details are unclear.
Our calendar hit a big cycle change in 2000/2001 switch. Most people mistakenly celebrated it at the 1999/2000 break (sorry folks, we did not have a year '0' so that didn't work.
So not only did we get the date wrong but nothing very much happened.
At least the Gregorian Calendar is close to reality. Lunar based calendars like the Mayans wander all over the place. The idea that the Mayans were aware of lunar gravitational degredation is rediculous. At best they made systematic corrections as specific lunar events failed to occur at predicted times.
This subject get difficult to debate because of the amount of non academic hog wash the gets dragged into the argument. The beiggest problem is the tendency of new age neo Mayans to actually avoid legitimate science. They don't want their neat little world to get messed up with actual facts...
Good luck

No. I am not. I am telling people the concept. You can make your own shirt. I did make one that is for sale, but that was just for the people that want to be involved but figure that it would be easier to just buy one.wedeliver wrote:erri2000 wrote:.....Or look at it as when you see all those people wearing "Shock the Karma" shirts on 12/21/12 ......"
Are you selling those shirts here?
I personally think that would be a fun "family thing" to get together with your kids and make a shirt and ask them what they think is going to happen.
It is not about selling shirts. If it was I would not have made the concept "copyright free".
I know that I am not going to make a penny on this project. I never make money on my projects, other people do, which totally sucks, but I do it for the love of art. (And some credit, I like when I at least get credit for my ideas)
I find it funny that movies like "Knowing" are coming out. From the previews it seems like they are trying to display the last several years from my life. (Problem with the plot in the movie is that it is not all about the numbers - the numbers lead to the real signs and the other signs lead to numbers. We have left a map to the "treasure" throughout time. For me I do this number thing where I try to get the numbers to add to 1 it is abstract math, refined numerology, but I digress. 1 is good, 2 is my love for her, 3 is cooperation, 4 is money, 5 is man, the I stay way from 6, hang at 7, 8 means I went to far, 9 means it time to listen to the beatles.
12/21/12 21:12:21 = 9 = Time to listen to the Beatles
12/21/2012 21:12:21 = 2 = And I love her.
I read the signs as they interact in my life and when I do the world opens to me like a flower at dawn.
So think about it. Read what I wrote. What does "Shock the Karma" mean to you? How do you say it? What do you think is going to happen the week between 12/12/12 and 12/21/12?
What ever the case HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Larry Harvey & Jerry James build & burn wooden man on Baker Beach on the summer solstice, following tradition begun by Mary Grauberger
The annual event now known as Burning Man began as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice in 1986 when Larry Harvey, Jerry James, and a few friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco burned an 8-foot (2.4-meter) wooden man as well as a smaller wooden dog. Harvey has described his inspiration for burning these effigy figures as a spontaneous act of radical self-expression.
The event did have earlier roots, though. Sculptor Mary Grauberger, a friend of Harvey's girlfriend Janet Lohr, held solstice bonfire gatherings on Baker Beach for several years prior to 1986, some of which Harvey attended. When Grauberger stopped organizing it, Harvey "picked up the torch and ran with it", so to speak. He and Jerry James built an 8-foot (2.4-meter) wooden effigy for 1986, which was much smaller and more crudely made than the neon figure featured in the current ritual. In 1987, the effigy grew to almost 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall, and by 1988 it had grown to around 40 feet (12 meters).

When I was at the Lounge I tried to get a Spring Solstice show going. Artist Sequoia Raven Moon, made that one a true celebration of life a new with her art and the music brought to the show.
She danced with her friends with fire and passion, it was very sexy, and for one night the world got one big raging "hard on"
From that night the Hot Pot Studio started.
