Any leftover necklaces?
FYI, this person PM'd me (not sure why) and told them to start a thread.
Since I have your attention, I need stickers for a pran - er, art project, for Alchemy.
So if anybody has an extra sticker lying around, and would be willing to get it in the mail in the next few days (I need it before the end of the month), PM me, won't you?
I underestimated the size of the...subject.
In return you'll get a photo of your sticker...

Let me explain the idea of gifting nice things to people and necklaces specifically. I can make about 10 necklaces a day, and do this in my spare time throughout the year. I make these really for ME, so I can give them to friends and other people that I want to brighten their day. If some looks sad or lonesome, I can give them a gift and start a conversation. If I'm feeling playful, I can give them to a group and have some fun with it.Shambala wrote:Raven my dear boy, this is your chance to get one of the coolest necklaces on the playa. I will put it on a padded envelope and pay the postage to send it to you. You simply can't ask for the gift. Just type out a paragraph on your thoughts and contributions. I will get the necklace off before the week is up. For all those who know me, they will tell you that I am for real.
I recall a few years back, when a loud mouth woman demanded I give her a necklace. She was really pushy and I didn't want to give this to her. As she persisted, my response to her was for her to "show me your tits", and I would give her one. I NEVER give these with any stipulations at all, especially something so rude--but I was only reflecting back her pushy attitude. She did end up getting a necklace, but what an ungratifying gift it was. It still doesn't sit well with me.
My offer is still open for the Brooklyn kid. At least I don't want to see your tits!

But a bit banal.
If I began sentences with "Burners ought to do better...", I could easily see myself ending one with "...than drunken college boys at spring break or drunken 20-somethings at Mardi Gras."
Not allowing myself to start sentences that way, all I can do is sit in the corner and gnash my teeth.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I kinda forgot about this thread. This past year (my first) I gifted glow in the dark necklaces, the kind you break then wrap around. I brought a tube of 80 and I gifted all of them before the temple burn. No stipulations or anything, just handed them out. People started coming up and asking for them.
I don't mean to offend anyone who was put off by my request. It's just a lot of my camp-mates got these really cool necklaces with the burning man logo and all gifted and I had no idea things like those were brought there. I thought they were really pretty and I wanted one as a souvenir but couldn't find anyone that was gifting them.
Hope you can understand that.

I saw a fellow e-playa'n that had received one of Shambala's necklaces and I had a jaw dropping
OH WOW moment. They really are very cool.
I can understand wanting the cool schwag, but if you feel like you didn't get enough, or the wrong kind, then maybe that's your sign to be more interactive, and not just go out on a schwag hunt looking for people giving out necklaces.

What other people think about you is none of your business.
Dammit, there goes my whole plan for my first burn...Bounce530 wrote:I saw a fellow e-playa'n that had received one of Shambala's necklaces and I had a jaw droppingOH WOW moment. They really are very cool.

Okay, Raven. I can understand necklace envy. Do take Shamabala up on his offer, if it's still open. If AntiM says it's swagalicious, it's swagalicious.
And the rest of you, well. um. at least you're not doing that other thing.

Hey Sham *hugs* Ok...this is for whomever wants an awesome necklace. Shambala sent me one and you couldn't ask for a more beautiful necklace. I was so impressed with the quality and I treasure it. So, if sham says he'll send you a necklace, believe it. Otherwise you'll be missing out on a beautiful piece of jewelry. I'm wearing mine next year as I pass through the gates for the first time.Shambala wrote:Ask maryanimal! Really, ask her.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

OK, let me jump in on this thread. Is anyone willing to put up pictures of their favorite necklaces? I'd love to copy someone else's good design :-) I'd love to make necklaces but need some inspiration.
All this talk of jewelry and gifts reminds me of a simple gift that I was given that means a lot to me. A woman in an art car called me over while I was walking past. She pointed at her wrist and I thought she wanted to know the time, since I had a watch on. I told her the time and she shook her head and grabbed my other wrist and put on a small stretchy bracelet. It's just a simple bracelet of wooden and brass beads, but I see it everyday and it reminds me of my time on the playa. A simple gift that works it's magic at least once a day.

I just wanted to add that I have also been the recipient of one of Sham's necklaces and it was probably the coolest one I have ever even seen let alone been gifted, and working the Gate I've seen a lot of cool Shwag! When I couldn't go last year I sent it to my mom with instructions for her to wear it on the Playa for her first year, in remembrance of me. She still refuses to give it back.

I'm working on some fun necklaces this year.
I have, in the past, unsuccessfully (IMO) attempted several different types of necklaces, but I didn't care for how they turned out.
These I'm actually beginning to be happy with, so hopefully I'll have a bunch to hand out.
I wanna see this famous Shambala necklace!!!
I love those clay ones that were posted a few posts up as well.

The Shambala necklaces almost didn't make it last year. I had a bag of them in my carry on, and the TSA thought that they could be used as a weapon. A supervisor had to intervene to allow these on board. After I got through security, I realized I had a bottle of water with me. I'm not sure which is more a thread to our national security, a water bottle or a necklace.
ROFL. Hey, I'm sure in some raging religious newspaper or tv show, the Shambala Burning Man necklaces WOULD be considered a threat to national security. Last I heard from one of my (IMO obsessive) "intense" religious friends, we do demon raising and worshiping out at Burning Man...
It made me sad. I ALWAYS miss the demon worship! I'll have to make sure to find that this year.
Not sure about the water bottle.
It's weird that they missed it, though.

I KNOW RIGHT?!?!
My very sincere and earnest friend told me with wide eyes that she heard on her fav television station that burning man is of the devil and they do demon worship and raise demons out there.
I almost peed myself.
I very seriously said that I'd never seen that. And that I'd have to go seek out the Demon Raising theme camp next year. She wasn't amused.
I, however, was ROFLMAO on the inside.
Every year since, my fiance and I seek in vain for the demon raising. Maybe this year we'll find it!!!

I think that they can't do the demon raising anymore. It had to be done in a cellar dungeon, and the permit stipulations strongly discourage digging.
