I don't want to minimize the dreadful statistics of September 11th, or the individual loss of life. The official number I found on line is 2819 people. The number of people killed annually in the US in car accidents is 40,000+-. I offer these numbers just for a cold perspective and contrast of how we as a country are reacting to the threat of terrorists.
I am having a lot of trouble justifying in my head, that we are losing most of our liberties that are the fabric of this country out of fear that we might get attacked again. These liberties are being taken from us by force.
I am really starting to fear our Government infinately more than I fear the chance of dying in a terrorist attack. Our rights and our freedoms are being erroded by the terrorists--in effect making THEM the hands down winner in this "war on terror" and us the losers!

I too believe we are giving up far too much. 2819 deaths suck, but to tell you the truth I would rather keep my freedoms than get the perception of a little bit of security.
IMHO, the days that 4 or 5 people can take control of a plane with box cutters are long gone. I am willing to bet that anyone trying to take a plane strong arm, would be completely ripped to shreds by the passengers in minutes. There's your real security.
Cockpit doors are armored, many pilots have pistols available. That is where the security should be. If a hijacker cannot take control of a plane, he might as well not go through with the evolution. If its the people they want, any NFL game or busload of people or other mass gathering is a way better target.
I have also heard rumors circulating that there are several companies looking at the legalities of private airlines, Chartered flights on the busiest routes that would not have any screening at all domestically. Same way you do with Netjets. Would be charged a premium for the service but I would look at it seriously if it fit my schedule and routes. I have to fly 20-30 times a year and its ridiculous.
just my 2 cents.

I just read an article in which the TSA says that 85% of people APPROVE of the handjob/groping body searches.
I call BULLSHIT on this information. I think they made this number up to take advantage of sheepish mentality of the public, and they believe that people will go along quietly if most people are in agreement.
While I hope they are wrong, and people stand up to this manipulative crap, I have a fear that the public will crumble and willingly submit to these indignities.
Believe it or not, it will be the late night comedians who keep this in the news and will make an impact on the public opinion.

I used to work in nuclear power. Everyone had to be scanned going in. No exceptions. There was an e explosive detector, a metal detector and an xray for everything that was carried in. Almost every day there was some being strip searched because they could not pass either the metal detector or the explosive detector. Even when they were naked they were not able to pass through. I on the other hand, who had a knee full of hardware that was the result of a bike accident, passed through every day. And for three days in a row I carried two loaded pistol magazines into the plant inside my backpack. On the third day I was wathching thexray as my pack came through and i saw on of the magazines. the security guard did not notice it. I was sure nervous on my way out that evening! On another occasion, a freind of mine brought a camera in. when he opened up the box to show me the camera, we found his loaded .25 auto inside with a spare magazine. So I do not think there is a relyable system to scan with. so thay will have to pat down everybody.
that being said; If I have to be patted down, the patter had better be female and naked. And willing to make it worht my while. Oh wait... wea are toalking about a GOV agency. Known for hiring the lowest common denominator. that means she might have cooties. Never mind. Tell United tht I am going to driveinstead.

That 85% may have come from a rag tag action call for thanksgiving travel... Everyone is to assked for a pat down.. Requesting a prvate screen and witness.. If 85% are on board The TSA system will be fucked..

Maybe somebody can develope a chamber or booth that all passengers must pass through one at a time. Each time a passenger is in the booth, the "TSA" person pushes a button that will detonate any explosives. If nothing happens, that person goes on. Otherwise all passengers in line will hear a muffled boom. Then an announsment over the pa. "Shop Vac, trash bags, and disinfectant needed at booth 4." Then "Attention stand by passengers, we now have a vacant seat on flight ____ going to____."

How many of that 85% planning on flying in the next month? And how many of fifteen percent are? It might make a difference.

It is a well known fact that people that break down and do weird shit like hijacking airplanes are under a lot of stress. I understand that the presidency is a very stressful job. Therefore I think that President Obummer should not be exemt from searches.

TSA: Touching Someone's Ass!
Does anyone remember the yellow smiley face stickers that the greeters of Walmart used to pass out to the little kids? They had to discontinue them due to some aggressive greeters "applying" them to the children rather strangely!

I'm thinking that after the kids go through their official government "screening", they can have a plastic badge put on them.

Don't be shocked when they roll out enhanced security checkpoints for trains and ALL fixed route mass transit systems in the country. Yep, just to board BART you too could be subject to a full TSA screening every day. The requests for the budget to do this have been made as John Pistole, the TSA boss wants to take the TSA to the "next level".
At the rate this is going the TSA could end up sucking down as much taxpayer $$$ as the Pentagon's black budget does.
Oh and if you're thinking you drive and don't have anything to worry about here comes the proposals to implement a VMT tax: Vehicle Miles Travelled tax. To do this look for GPS and transponder equipment to become mandatory on all vehicles that require a valid license plate to operate. I won't get into the specifics here but such a tax and how to implement it are being put to the test right now...and the feds like the preliminary results. In short unless you're on a bike or on foot life over the next decade transport wise is going to seriously start to suck.
