Virgin DC Burner here as well....I have my ticket, so now its a flight, shipping my gear, a car, and a bike....

From what I found, there isn't much of a difference in price flying into Reno, or San Fran, or Sacramento from IAD....so if I can, I think I am going to try to get into Reno the day before the gates open, (Saturday)....pick up gear on Saturday night/Sunday morning and then head to the gate...

I have not volunteered for anything yet, but (even though being a virgin) I really would like to get involved...

That's a good plan, flying into Reno! Buy a bike, food and water Sat/Sunday...the square one gallon jugs for drinking water are a good idea, keeps the dust out when one gallon jugs are used, chug about a gallon a day before you get there and the first empty jug will work for your first pee bottle. It's unique desert camping first and foremost! Volunteering/fun after the camping basics, have safe travels!
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!
