I hope you're not the only one out of 14 doing this work! Delegate as many tasks as possible among your mates. They may groan initially, but their participation will help them enjoy the event much more.

Congrats on being so prepped already. One emphasis on the wind situation: there is a prevailing wind direction, but the most damaging winds can come from any quarter, and gusts can be well over 80 kmph. In other words, a truck as a wind block will often, but not always, be useful. It will be a good anchor point, probably.

Good luck!

[quote="Brittus"]Great, thanks.
That said, if nice folks wander in I'd feel obliged to gift a nice cup of tea, and a wear of my bowler hat, in line with the best stereotypical British traditions.

This is gonna be my first BM as well. I would love to find your camp if you actually did this.

This is an amazing benefit you're offering your employees. We had a large furniture store on the east coast, that brought all their employees to Bermuda---for the day. The store really push the publicity side of the trip. It was only a 2 hour flight and everyone came home the same day. I guess they just had the cost of the plane and the parties while there.

My BIG question for you is, why are you doing this trip? Is there some sort of team building and motivation behind this? Is this some sort of punishment for them for not meeting their goals? Do you hate them and you're trying to give them some draconian experience? Are you really trying to kill them?

I read the entire thread and don't recall seeing what type of business the company is in. What do you do?

I am sure that everyone involved in this trip will have an amazing time. You seem like a really great boss for doing this.

Hey, maybe he felt mentioning his business would be violating the no commerce principles. If so, bravo for noticing and making the effort. (You can say the type of business, just no gory details, we're dainty here).

A few companies I know take their peeps. We have a group of about 20-40 that go yearly.

All comped by the company.

Hi all,

Again, thank you for all your kind comments and bits of advice. We've pressed the Green GO button on this adventure, and have a final party size of 10-11 (last ditch negotiations occurring with the eleventh; explaining to his wife what this is, and why it's critical he goes ;)

For those who asked why we're doing this and what sort of business we are: we're a group of people who work together and we started out just over a year ago after having worked for 12+ years each in Big Advertising. Because of the nature of BM, that's as far as I'll go - I really like the no commerce/no commercials aspect to the whole thing; so if you want to find out who we are, you'll have to come find us at the festival!

We've decided to do this because at about the same time, SXSW is running and lots of people in our industry will be decamping there enmasse. We prefer to do our own thing and BM is rather unique so we're headed there instead. If as a result, those that go learn how to work together better as a team then fantastic.

So we're now in Proper Planning - because we've never done this before, and because I can see from reading the forums that there are a lot of other folk in similar boats, I'll be recording all our prep, costs, plans and whatnot on a public WIKI (not on our company site) and will update my eplaya profile/signature with the URL when it's live. It might prove useful to others; equally it might make for great comedy reading for everyone else :)

Cheers

Brittus.
