i was there in 2001. parts of the playa were dustier than others. unfortunately we happened to camp on the dustier side of the playa... the 3 o'clock side. it was work biking in it. even with a mountain bike. people with thin tires or not so great bikes didn't do very well.. and often ended up walking. it really made me want a powered vehicle.
