Yup. Rode in on the coattails of Mad Max. B movie post apocalyptic genre. There were two other "Hell" movies, neither of which lived up to the standard set by the first. Starred "Rowdy" Roddy Piper of WWF fame and Sandahl Bergman who played Valeria in Conan the Barbarian. It's actually available on DVD now.graidawg wrote:Finxiekins wrote:Oh. A. My. God. Shemaghs are really cheap, I got mine off of LA police gear and I think the total was like, 13-18 dollars.LastNight wrote:Sheeeraaah! So I looked up "Post Apocalyptic" on esty....Pfft. It's awful, just a bunch of tastefully ripped clothing. >.<

We got our shemaghs from majorsurplus, but it looks like they don't have them now. They had the pirate skull printed ones once. Yowza!

2.5 yards of muslin is the cats pjs. I'm out in whatever conditions 12 hrs a day every day on Poop Patrol, and just that one accessory cannot be overstated in its necessity. The hotter it gets the more cloth I wrap on and around my head and shoulders. My first year I made a full 7 layer beduin outfit. I don't wear all of the pieces at once, but each piece (pants, tunic, robe and kathea) all make exceptional clothing. Egyptian cotton is a bit too pricey for me, so I just use medium weight cotton muslin. All my Pottie-Pants are just that with elastic waist and deep pockets. Comfortable & hard wearing. Good luck.

That movie is a little more.... realistic I think, in terms of starvation, fighting, and nuclear winter. I highly reccommend it. Don't use it for fashion inspiration though.

I'm going with the bedouin nomad look as well! I really want to stick to its roots so I'll probly go with a kaftan, there's something I love about the authenticity and its hospitable nature to the desert, it's all super exciting, I've been looking at vids on youtube of all the ways to wrap a turban, the kind of "props" I'd like to have on me in my belt bag, so exciting.

I wear muumuus, which I make myself. That aloha print just doesn't scream post-apocalyptic though. Post-Tiki Bar hangover perhaps....
