Use this page (yeah, the one linked at the bottom of the signup page) to contact the Burner Profiles team.

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
I'm also getting the message that the system cannot locate my profile. Methinks this will go away after a bit longer. Must breathe....
Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
I got it to work, and since this was not 1st come, no problem. However, come next Wed it will be 1st come 1st serve, and we will likely see the same issue. I worry that some sort of hackish sniping techniques could crowd out JQ Average Burners. Anyone want to publish best practices or any other info about how such processes will work for the sale date to get us mostly on an even playing field?

It had told me to log out before going to the homepage and registering. Maybe the fact that you're logged in is the problem?Tedrosse wrote:im getting a relpy saying can not find your profile- even thou im logged in???

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
nezden, you say you've been burning since 1998 in your profile - surely you've seen how Burning Man ticket on-sales work before, have you not?
For clues on how the earlier ticket sales went, please refer to other threads on this very message board - people were posting about their headaches and frustrations as well as successes.
The process of pre-registration allows Burning Man to review registrations, and help weed out attempts to either game the system or deny others the opportunity to purchase tickets. There will likely be a few people who are able to get in and out fairly quickly when the gates open, the queue gets very busy very fast, and it could take a while. Be prepared to queue, and have patience.

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
Well, what I surely know is that I have never been able to make it work in recent years. I never had any success with reduced-price tickets which always seemed to be gone before I could get into the system, and so used to just buy a ticket at the gate, which one can no longer do. I have also gotten tickets from friends or third parties, but one used to be able to check on ticket numbers to make sure they were valid and attached to the name of the person from which one was buying them, but you can no longer do that either. So yeah, I am familiar with a whole bunch of processes, none of which exist any longer.
So here I am trying to make a process work, which I didn't have any luck with back when BRC had 30K residents, and was asking for advice or info on how it all works NOW. Not to single you out, but frankly the snarkiness of the first sentence of your reply is indicative of a poor attitude that pervades the administration and most egregiously the DPW. I am one of the most self-reliant people ever to set foot on the playa, but any time I have tried to get help when I am helping someone else (without having someone with me who can flash a 'chupacabra badge') I get attitude.
I have worked on a lot of projects and I know how frustrating it is to be pestered by the clueless newbies and often impossibly stoned idiots, so I get it, but I object to the way this sort of nastiness has become the standard way to deal with the issue. There is a generosity out there between the vast majority of residents, which is so lacking among the BMorg and its employees that it breaks my heart.
This is a serious flaw in the 10 principles. The general idea of generosity and cooperation is implicit in the ideas of Gifting and Communal Effort, but these are generally treated as if they to apply only to those within one's own sub-tribe or to those with sufficient hipitude to deserve it. Radical Self Reliance becomes this excuse to NOT offer gifts and to AVOID Communal Effort.
I respect how difficult your job may be, and wish you all the best, Trilobyte. Sorry to rant in this relatively off-topic way, but as you might imagine, this community is very important to me, and I long ago made the decision to do whatever I could to help steer it in the optimal direction. Maybe I'll see you out there - if I can find a ticket.

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
I had success - and it's because I slowed down and read the pre-registration page carefully!
I was entering my burner profile name and password. It's asking for my email address, not the password.
Doh! (smacking myself on the head)
Hope this helps at lease one other hyper-active person like myself.

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
@nezden.. wow. I'm sorry that you took my post as snark and feel that way towards me. Wow. The first sentence was a genuine question. I've not been participating in the event that long, but for every year that I've been involved the day tickets go on sale has been nutty. And the veterans who helped me get to the playa that year had told me about it as if it had been a standard ritual since tickets were first sold.
The rest of my post was information to help you get an answer to your question. The boards really do have the history there, and the information I mentioned about pre-registration is accurate and was intended to ease your concerns about people using 'hackish sniping techniques.'
I never once thought you were either a clueless newbie or a stoned idiot. I'm sorry if that's what you choose to read between the lines, but it's not something I'm thinking...

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
I'm sorry too, Trilobyte. Snark and sarcasm are hard values to read properly in online discourse. As I described, I was reacting in the context that I described from my long interactions with B Man staff, including frankly and sadly, many of the top brass. Honestly, I am sorry that I projected this onto you, reading your post I see that it did include earnest efforts to inform me. How ungenerous and uncooperative of me.

Re: OMG Sale Registration Issues
No worries. The runup to any ticket registration/on-sale can be frought with tension, and the internets, while awesome in so many ways, do lend themselves to miscommunication and misunderstandings. I hope all's good on your end, and wish you the best in the OMG sale.
