I don't have much history-of fashion-knowledge, but I do have some. Up until ~200 years ago, men (English/American) dressed just as fancy as women did. Then, whether it was the result of Beau Brummell or Lord Bulwer-Lytton (yeah, that guy) the unadorned, such as the basic black suit, came in. And never left us. (Again within a limited pool, but enough of one that many of us think of it as "normal".) Then it became a matter of having a nicely dressed woman on your arm, or having a red "power-tie". So, dressing up is actually returning to the norms of the human male of most of our history and pre-history on this planet.
Oh, so, Cargo Cult.
Note: That paragraph is broadly painted and does not cover exceptions of race, class, and sexual orientation.

us natives do the peacock thing pretty well , as in nature the male is the most colorfull
I dress in clothes that are normal but I really feel at home at Powwow's when I can
wear what feels natural
Going to a Powwow today in Grand Ronde about 30 miles from me , go get some frybread and dance in the veterans dance
wear what feels natural
