"Playa Cruiser" is great art. I liked it before I meet the Captain and got the technical explanation on how he stripped out an actual “it use to float” boat and rebuilt it to “float” on the Playa. The “Flying Carpet” was great also. The titer totter was interesting, Sorry to hear it got abandoned on the Playa to be cleaned up by DPW. The “Nile Barge” (my term) with the 4 walking Egyptian bearers was great.

What it comes down to is what do you consider “ART”? The “art” car that I saw that were nothing more than a rust red truck with a bunch of junk glued to it?

So let me tell a story. Back in the late eighties I went to work for a firm that did the furniture moving for The Irvine Company (TIC). One of my first jobs was to move all the furniture out of Don Brens’ (The owner of TIC) office so it could be recarpeted. I got to the right floor and was waiting in the secretaries area. And on the wall there were 2 cheap ass picture frames on the wall with a white background and a pale blue wave boarder. I asked what was that about. My boss explained that these were to paintings that had been stolen and Don Bren keep them there to remind him.

A little while later I learned the “truth”. Don Bren also had a book done on the artwork of TIC. Turns out he paid $100,000 EACH for blank frame. I fail to see the art. And I moved another piece inside his office that I really liked. A montage with the BSA logo in the middle. And my first and hopefully last Ming Dynasty vase.

So what is my rand about? Its been said before. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Art is what works for you. So was it “Art” when that guy back in Holland put the 10 goldfish in the 10 blenders and invited passersby to fire them up?

No not judge, just enjoy. If you do not get it move on to something you do.

Mutant Vehicle Photos

Post by Mister Jellyfish Mister » Sat Sep 25, 2004 8:45 am

Hi. I'd love to get your feedback on what you thought of our first Mutant Vehicle attempt "The International Time Vault". It looked like a big El Wire clock in the middle and you can check out the link below to jog your memory.

If you know of any good photos of it out there on the 'net, I'd appreciate a link. We never got a good night time shot that shows the lighting in full glory. Hard to impossible with a diposable camera.
