The one they gave me at the gate for re-entry would have lasted a long time I'm sure. I only had to wear it for 24 hours, but I showered with it and it held up fine.stuart wrote:How is a wristband going to last 10 days?

Suppose you could always go back to the gate with your ID and get a new one if you ruined yours.stuart wrote:i've had plenty of experience with those.
I am not so sure they would hold up to 3 days of post hole digging, rebar pounding, screen and tarp hanging, 6 days of hard partying and then 1 day of rebar pulling. Although I guess you might not need it on that last day if yer buggin out.
Also, if you are drinking your own booze you don't need it. It would only be for bars that are serving people. No bracelet, no booze for you. That way the bartender doesn't get ticketed for serving underage guests.
As someone else noted, this is to protect the person serving the booze, not for protecting you. If you didn't have your wristband, you could carry your actual id.

Yup. We were camped at 8:00 and Earth, we had a bar set up and had a wine tasting party Friday afternoon. We still had the bar set up Saturday and were visited by a group of folks who all received drinks. No different from the tons of folks who'd stopped by and hung out all week. A few minutes later they came back with LEO's and said we had served a minor. They were nice enough, gave us a warning and split. We stopped offering drinks after that, just didn't want the hassle or the attention from people with badges and guns.
I think it's silly to expect people to carry id and silly to expect people to ask for it.

Oct 13, 2004 (streetinsider.com via COMTEX) -- Applied Digital (NASDAQ: ADSX) and Digital Angel Corporation (AMEX: DOC) announced today that VeriChip, the world's first implantable radio frequency identification (RFID) microchip for human use, has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for medical uses in the United States. The FDA clearance follows the completion of a de novo application review.

Less alcohol
As a general comment, I wouldn't mind seeing a little less alcohol on the playa. It seems that most of the really aggressive, nasty behavior on the playa has the formula "alcohol + yahoo". Personally, I would rather deal with 10 e-tards and stoners over one drunk. I was part of a camp with a bar as their primary "interactivity", and I'll encourage them to do something else next year.jaydub wrote:We stopped offering drinks after that, just didn't want the hassle or the attention from people with badges and guns.

Re: Less alcohol
You said mouthful there, bro! At the liquor store in Vegas, before heading up to BRC, I bought a literal shit-load of beer (in S.I. units, of course). I calculated that I had enough beer to drink 8-9 beers/day, if I drank it all myself, which I knew I wouldn't, but I didn't want to run out either. (BTW, I do not like distilled spirits at all). I actually ended up only drinking one or two a day, just because I was already pissin' up a storm and it was so hard to stay hydrated - alcohol only made matters worse. Bottom line, I spent $130 on beer and ended up giving half of it away, mostly to the G-Spot and the cleanup crew. Oh well, lesson learned for next year.Simply Joel wrote:Otisserie wrote:As a general comment, I wouldn't mind seeing a little less alcohol on the playa.
