Re: Hauling water from Default home to BRC vs Filling in Ren
First timer here so I know nothing about anything. As of now I'm still going solo so I have to figure everything for that if the circumstances don't change. I'll be driving in from Los Angeles with a '93 toyota corolla which is darn small. Any suggestions on how to deal with the water issue or am I just screwed?

I have gone to BRC from SoCal with all the gear and two people, including water, in a two-door economy vehicle. Don't be pessimistic - where there there is a will, there is a way!

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.

As suggested, read the guide for an idea on how much you need.DerbyDave 18 wrote:... I'm still going solo so I have to figure everything for that if the circumstances don't change. I like the staged acquisition of water, to minimize the weight you're hauling over hills and paying gas for, yet ensuring you have some if the closer sources have issues on the day you're moving through.
There's the larger plastic "boxes"/jugs of water https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic ... 09#p967019 (I like the ArrowHead taste best)
I'd grab one in Reno (Costco, walmart, savemart, etc.)
Another in Fernley,
Self-fill containers (for example, food safe white 5 gal buckets at walmart) to fill your required the balance from the municipal water sales in Gerlach (Gerlach GID (the local governing body of Gerlach) will be selling potable water). http://burningman.org/event/preparation ... ch-empire/ This is not the cheapest source, but it's good value as you've not paid to carry that weight over the hills to the playa, and you're supporting our neighbours.
Don't leave Reno without at least some water. That way if the other sources for whatever reason not available, you've got water for on-playa until you get a daypass for the drive/bus back out to Gerlach and the stores or municipal water sales there.
In calculating your water needs, remember that if you're going to run a swamp-cooler, that needs potable water to feed it. Potable ice melt, if clean of food particles, is O.K..
