if you're OK with underwear... during the day, i live in a bra and bikini bottoms. once i add my hat, collar & necklaces, camelback, cargo belt (with tail!), and knee-high boots, i feel surprisingly not "basically naked".
fuck clothes. clothes are for the default word.[/quote]
I also use bikini tops or bras and bikini bottoms or micro mini skirts during the day. Add my fanny pack which I use in front and water bottles which hides my love handles and you got a good outfit for anyday. Add a sheer shirt and you got a different outfit to wear.

Being a fat girl means I *have* to have some kind of short/pants/leggings to protect my inner thighs from each other.
This year I'm going to try and craft my way to some outfits that take this into account a little more than just packing a pair of plain black leggings for every skirt I want to wear.

I've found the stick form of antichafe cream to be really effective - sometimes marketed for runners, cheaper at a drugstore marketed to diabetics... Looks like a mini deodorant stick, one application does me all day!
Also, heard of Bandalettes? Lacy bands designed to banish chub rub while looking sexy - I plan to buy some early, with time to make more myself if it looks easy, and order more if it doesn't!

OK, I'm a guy, but my lady friend tends to be on the more, ah, "well-endowed" side. As a really bad idea for a joke gift, I picked up a bottle of this stuff at a farm supply store, and was afraid to give it to her because I thought she'd be insulted. As it turned out, she loved the stuff, and ended up using the whole bottle. Not sure how well it would work in a desert environment, so YMMV.

Night-time Hoodie Complete - (adding lighting this weekend)
I made it without a pattern, just followed some easy instructions - and made it too big
So I'm floating in it. Gonna put some darts in the back to take it in and a drawstring to pull it together.

Took less than an hour.
http://www.prettyquirkypants.com/2012/0 ... cket-hood/ is the instructions I followed.
I'm making a day-hoodie version too. With flat bedsheets from my futon (which just live in their coverbag..never used em - might as well put them to good use)
Most fabric at it's width is about 40" to 44" which is PLENTY for this project. I found mine at Fabricland (like Joanne's) on the clearance wall for 2$ a meter. Stiff Flannel is so easy to work with. It behaves perfectly for beginner sewers. Which I AM.
I made this with 2 meters of fabric. Have enough left over to make Jammie pants. Which I will do this weekend.
From another fashiony fat-kid.

Melonblue it's great! I would leave it big. NO darts. NO gathering up. It you want it more fitted make a sash. It's so perfect just the way it is. Great job.

Melonblue I like that a lot! I may steal the pattern and make a vest or hooded dress by modifying it...

I agree w Ratty, a sash would be easy and do the job, just make 3 loops and a sash. Jammie pants are the bomb out there, that's all the pants I bring, one pair of flannel, one heavy muslin, the rest medium weight muslin.

I finished my jammie pants
I LOVE this fabric - so bright and fun and soft and warm and CHEAP. Gonna be just perfect for nighttime. Again no pattern....I just turned some jammie pants inside out and copied the cut.

I've never had so much fun sewing. Even when I mess up, I laugh about it, fix it and move on. Super freeing to make projects knowing it's all going to be just fine no matter how terribly it turns out

Re: Easy sewing for playa wears for the everyday fat girl
First, thank you thank you thank you for this thread
My favorite playawear is pretty bras (I take/wear my 'default' world bras b/c G-cups are WAY too expensive to have multiple sets of) and a variety of skirts/sarongs/wrap pants. The pants and sarongs can be made out of just about any large piece of square fabric you can find.
For skirts, I found that starting with a tall/wide waistband of interlock knit (like yoga pants) as a base allows me to experiment with lots of different skirts (circle skirts, "tattered" patchwork skirts, long lace panel skirts, etc) without worrying with elastics, fasteners, etc. The interlock fabric is pretty supportive, too, for dancing/climbing/running/general burning man shenanigans.
Last year I discovered the joy of bra-lets (no-underwire bras) in pretty colors and lace. There's a particular plus-size only lingerie website that has a TON of beautiful things, and belly dance costumers are another great resource.
I've been thinking of doing a body-diversity representation photo project this year, to take beautiful portraits of burners of size. Would anyone be interested in that sort of thing?

I'm a rather large talking aquatic primate and would not be ad versed to having a few photos taken.
I have done a lot of sailing in the pacific islands and the garment of choice is the pareo/lavalava/sarong, so it was a no brainer selection for my first time playa garb.

Chuck - I just looked at your blog on the hat you're making. It sounds super cool! It would look good with a cape, too.

Re: Easy sewing for playa wears for the everyday fat girl
Love this thread. I started to create a plus-size festival/event fashion blog a while back but let it fade out because I didn't seem to have much interest - okay maybe I just had ADD and forgot. Anyway... as a super plus size lady burner, I'd also love to be part of the photo project, and I agree that letting big boys be part of it is also a great idea.
Last year was my first burn. I rocked the tutu and the thai fishermen's pants and weird looking leggings. I also made my own pseudo tutu "skirts" out of colorful 2" fabric strips and elastic. I wore leggings underneath and loved it. Tanktops on top mostly for me. I'm boring like that. I'm also really into accessories. For me, burning man means 16-hr work days and I have to wear things that offer flexibility/ease of movement without loose parts. I hope to push my comfort zone a little bit this year with some radical self expression, which means showing slightly more skin amidst the lean bodies that surround me. Anyway.. nice thread

I've got it rocking a rainbow fade (in a circle) right now. I'll add video tonight. The GPS is working, but not logging. And I'm having trouble getting the compass to do what it's supposed to do, but I have time to get it all working.BoyScoutGirl wrote:Chuck - I just looked at your blog on the hat you're making.
