I can't imagine buying old couches. In the last 4 days there are 10+ adds for free sofas in the East Bay. Granted, half of them you don't want. (Too disgusting or they are sofa-beds). Put an ad on CL in the 'wanted' section. Take your pick. Bookmark CL 'Free' and put someone in charge of checking it regularly. Free sofas and free dirt are the most common items there.

Both Felony and I have been fielding requests from newbies and disenfranchised burners asking if there's room for them (and their countless number of friends, stoners, and general hanger-oners) in our Village. The answer is no. Barbie Death Village is filled to the rafters and no further requests will be fulfilled or even considered. Thank you all who have expressed interest, and to those few who have been accepted ("Many are called, few are chosen"), into our modest home. We hope to see everyone at the Meet & Greet.

And in that regard, Barbie Death Village has been placed: We are at the exact same spot as last year, 6:30 and Effigare heading towards 6:45 and all the way up to Guild. 4.16 acres of prime playa real estate. Come by and enjoy the debauchery.

Some things never change. The Eplaya Meet & Greet will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening and last until the last Eplayan is scraped off the dusty carpet. Bring something to share. Like yourself!

I have some very sad news. Shirley Crawford (Don AKA Geppetto's wife and long time Barbiebarian) has suffered a massive stroke and is in the care of a nursing home. Clearly they will not be making it to the playa but our prayers and wishes are with Shirley and her entire family. This of course puts the wine bistro on the back burner for this year, but so what. These are the times that we rally together and support one another. Again, Shirley, you are in our thoughts and prayers always.

There has been a disaster with Barbie's Mobile Whorehouse I'm sad to report. I got this from Felony and she was in an agitated state, so bear with me: While two of our people were trying to load her onto the 16' flatbed trailer somehow the main gas line (you'll forgive me for not knowing the correct terminology) snapped and one of the four main bolting chains also broke. We can live without the latter, but as it stands right now no fuel can get from the tank to the engine. We are not sure it can be repaired in the short amount of time we have left.

OH NO, This is terrible news! I know a mobile mechanic in Colfax, that is what he does and he is good at it. Let me know and I can contact him!

UPDATE: Turns out the vehicle has a broken motor mount. It is currently at Oliver's shop in Granite Bay but we won't know until Friday whether or not it actually is going to be fixed in time. Anybody know how long it takes to repair a motor mount on a 1970 Ford pick up?

On that truck it should be easy.

About an hour.

Jack engine to take the pressure off the mount.

Unbolt the mount.

Jack a little higher to put new mount in.

Lower jack and tighten everything up.

DONE!!!

UPDATE: Turns out the vehicle has a broken motor mount. It is currently at Oliver's shop in Granite Bay but we won't know until Friday whether or not it actually is going to be fixed in time. Anybody know how long it takes to repair a motor mount on a 1970 Ford pick up?

A proper shop should be able to do that in an hour, or so. It would take more time to get it into the shop, than to fix it.

If I could get there, with my tools, I could change it.

We're getting all the parts we need and will fix her on the playa. Problem, uh, solved. Safety third.

If this truck has a load or pulling a trailer, that could be a real problem.

Depending on which mount it is, the torque could cause the engine to rise up on one side, causing stress on the drive train.

At least wrap some chain around the broken mount to stop this happening or you could get really badly broken down on the way!!!

A long time ago, a friend had put a V8 350 engine in a Vega and had to chain down one side of the engine cause it would jump up and break the motor mount and put a dent in the hood. Once he chained it down, problem solved. That car could do 12 second quarter miles.
