i get a blue questionmark icon, which is my browser indication that it can't load an image.
i suspect that it may be a local caching thing. but i'm definitely getting not most of the avatars.
Avatar problems
the url that this page is trying to use for tp's avatar:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/images/ava ... d4e59c.gif
the url it's trying to use for my avatar:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/images/ava ... e530c0.gif
both of those yield a 404 for me...

It's definitely odd, because in the page source I see the image tag for
trey's avatar, but I see nothing (no broken image link, nothing) in the left
table cell. But I too get a 404 when trying to access it directly.
This is odd because when y'all did the changeover I saw red Xs (what
Opera displays for images not found) for most folks. It's prolly some
browser thing, because in IE 6.0.2 I see broken links (but saw broken
links in Opera until a couple of days ago too).
T, did you upload your avatar or have it link to an avatar on a different
server or your local machine?

Hoping to assist
If it is a help, all I see is black line box with a smaller black line box in the upper left corner with a red "X" where your avitars should be.

what happens when you try to load the urls i posted? and maybe try reload to make sure you're not getting a cached image? if that's all good, maybe check the .htaccess file in the images/avatars directory to make sure it's not doing some domain specific access restriction? or just lo9ok in that directory to see if those files are there at all?

Bingo. File not found.
OK there's a possibility that the images folder was simply overwritten, if so, we might be able to get the images back.
