Thanks. I share my birthday with my daughter and was happy to have her visit with her family this weekend. I don't recall it ever falling on Easter before. Special day.

HIya!
ah y'know, it's sort of "the usual " here. critters, flowers, hoping to get to the Hof soon. Being a hermit anyway, not a lot has changed over the last year for me. Got in a head on wreck and totaled my F250 (100% the other drivers fault), so having some lingering injury stuff, but not too bad.

I hope the residual injury parts clear up for you.
Also, hoping the road to the Hof isn't too bad... I miss that place.

awe thanks Patsh.
yeah, the road to the Hof is a new adventure every year! I've changed my main route in. It's about 15 mins longer, but a nice drive, and the horrid part of the road is much shorter.
Be nice to have a Hof party again. Those sure were fun.

Great to see ya Patsh!
Yeah, I was sort of wondering how Marty is doing too. I haven't seen him post in a long time.
Same for Ratty, she seemed to abruptly stop posting here on eplaya about a year ago.
Doing OK here. Staying busy with yardwork type stuff and planting several trees, but I don't mind, the weather is pleasant these days.

Far as I know, Ratty is well, and has an adorable little granddaughter to preoccupy her. (I see her at times on fb.)
Now is the short 'season' to play and work outside, before it gets too hot. Here in AZ, everyone is hoping for a decent Monsoon season... fingers crossed! It used to start in early July, without fail, but the last few decades, it has not been following the rules!

Yggy, bro. you're not alone. I bought a cherry red Ford f150 last year. In February, a rogue forklift hit it in the windshield and did $6000 in damage to the truck. His fault. I paid the $500 deductible (which I should get back).
burner von braun, just like yggy you're a gentleman and a scholar. Love your posts. I wrote a poem about you, inspired by Tom Lehrer's work:
Let me sing you a story of a Man of renown,
A burner whose status is ruled by his gentleness,
Call him a hippy he won't even frown,
"Hippy? That's skippy!" says burner von braun.
Patsch, I miss you and would love to give you the famous Rhinohugglesnugglecuddle any time.
Happy belated birthday to Magic Marty!
All burners who take the time to fill me in on what's happening to them on this board get my love and a wave. Bless each and every one of you.

LoL, thanks for the poem ^Rhino! ...and the compliment. I think I still have a few trips out to BRC left in me if all goes well. Perhaps our paths will cross someday. Until then, it's always good to see you roaming around here.
Patsh, I hope your monsoon season gets its act together! I'm sure you could use the rain. Things seem a little dryer here so far this spring compared to the last several years, but maybe it's just pacing itself. Time will tell. And thanks for the Ratty update.
At the moment, I don't have any plans to head out to the desert this year, but have to admit that there is a small ember that wonders what participating in the old school experience would be like.

Yeah, we're getting a pretty dry spring, which follows a dry winter. Second year of drought, so, yeah, fire season is already here! So far fires are slow ish moving, because fuel moisture is still fairly high. but, well, "it's on". Been doing all my clearing and such, and most importantly, have fire insurance up to date..ugh, with these new "protocols" in CA, my H.O. insurance went from 2400 to 6200 per year... ack.
Several friends went to the "event" last summer on the playa. Said it was pretty fun, and pretty "old school". I'm wondering, though, after last year, will BLM bring a heavier presence, this year? I know I was set to work for the ORB again this year, and well, not now...

"ack"... Indeed yg! That's quite a bump in the insurance rate. It melts my wallet just thinking about it.
Good on ya for clearing the space. That kind of effort ends up resembling hard work, depending on what equipment you have. Currently, I'm weighing the advantages and considering investing in a ZeroTurn mower. There seems to be quite a few models and varieties to choose from, if you can find them available at the moment.
After spring cleanup, I had planned to do a few building projects and improvements, but wow, the price of lumber is crazy these days! I assume everyone else is seeing the same thing.
*shakes fist at 4x8 sheet of plywood*
Much as I like the concept, it gives one pause before burning one's art, I would think.
...and I'm still puzzled by "ORB." Would that be the latest rendition of "BMorg" these days? I kinda like it!

ha, good catch BVB! ORB, indeed. I could think of so many things it could stand for...
yeah, clean up and equipment. Effort relates directly to money spent on tools I guess. I do a lot of things manually, just for the exercise. I do have two wood splitters though. one 6 and one 8 lb. and wedges. Some of the black oak here can be very tough!
Yeah, lumber is crazy! I'm so happy I have my own mill. Sometimes I have to build with pine or cedar, but as long as I size it correctly for load, it's just fine. I just built a "shade structure" and milled all the framing lumber except the glue lams whick a friend gave me. Nice to "use what you have". I had bought the OSB sheeting several years ago, so lucky there. Though I ran one sheet short, so had to plane down some pine 1x8 to match. Well, and had to buy roofing. HI there GW!! Glad to seeya! How's things in the East?

Gaminwench, biggest of blessings to you in the Blue Ridge. I'm assuming the mountains of western North Carolina. It's a little piece of heaven in the hills, to be sure.gaminwench wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:30 amYgmir, et al: we are loving it here. The rhododendrons are half the story, there's also the mountain laurel and the dogwoods that make the Blue Ridge and the Smokies both erupt in color in the spring. Be on the lookout also for the beauty of fall colors..they're comin', too!
Yggy, insurance companies can be real hacks. I got my own back on them on two occasions. In Missouri, when a home changes hands there has to be a certification with all the necessary paperwork that there's homeowner's insurance, which includes flooding insurance or certification from a Professional Engineer or Registered Geologist that you're not in the floodplain. My girlfriend purchased a home and got the homeowner's insurance, and I'm qualified to make the call that we were not in the floodplain (in fact, probably 100' above the 500-year floodplain mark - confirmed by the Federal mapping that indicates the same). The bank questioned my qualification to make that call (they didn't know me) so I had my lawyer call them. All handled very nicely, and I got an apology from the bank. Regarding fire insurance, I wouldn't know a whole lot, since Columbia proper has one of the lowest fire insurance rates in the nation. My duplex has a response time of about 30 seconds. I feel very safe here.
