i never liked him and hillary, i worked for jerry Brown...
however, with that said, after he left office, and we had 8 years of UNHERALDED prosperity and peace and a BUDGET SURPLUS after the rapacious reagan years, i have to admit, i'll take ELVIS sticking it up my ass over Lee Atwater (i'm GLAD he died of cancer, quite frankly) and Karl Rove any fucking day.
you have to make choices, ya know?
keep this in mind too, i worked for gen. Al Haig in 88', so dont pigeonhole my politics, you'll never pin me down.

cold blooded killers? they are on the other side ....
bush and gang were trying to figure out how to deal with the cold blooded killers ... now obama gets to deal with them.
petulant, spoiled and dangerously willful brats with dangerous weapons are the problem he has to solve, and that did not change with the election. how obama deals with them, and his relative success remains to be seen.
and no, i am NOT predicting that he will screw up! only that these problems are bigger than you silly liberals with your rose-colored glasses care to see. perhaps obama hasn't closed gitmo because, now that he is in the hotseat, he understands the problem.... maybe he doesn't prosecute because democrats in congress were well aware of what the bushies were doing, and supported them .... duh ...
the truth is, as cowboyangel keeps reiterating: either both parties are in cahoots, and ALL of them crooked ... OR, as i see it, it's a dangerous world, and keeping this country - and our allies - safe and prosperous, a dirty and difficult task.
but i do agree with placebo that it will get worse before lessons are learned. we've lived in peace and prosperity for so long that we think it's the natural state of things ... that we can just be nice, and everyone will be happy ... posh. never has been, never will be.

not trying to pigeonhole or pin.......just understand...........
I've been all over the map, as well........
I guess that's why I dis-like both............. mostly dis-trust, for me.......
some are better at obfuscation than others.........some more closely scrutinized, some ignored......
but,
IMHO: all dishonest............greed and power driven...........
I'm not so sure I'd credit the dot.com bubble and transient prosperity to any set of policies, or politicians..........
Interesting, you'd be glad someone died of cancer........seems sort of harsh, but............
wow, "moonbeam" and al haig..........can't fault you for diversity of opinion or experience...........

IMHO, the geneva convention has little influence on our "enemies", daniel pearl and others might agree.......not that I'm for egregious mistreatment and all.......but, war is a dirty, destructive thing, it's, IMHO, naive to think if we make rules, it will matter.........
maybe, if it was more horrible, not so "clean", people would avoid it more?
but, then again, I'm not much of a U.N. fan...........

we do what we gotta do, but it's a matter of FOLLOWING THE GOD-DAMNED GENEVA CONVENTION SO OUR OWN BOYS DONT GET TREATED IN THE SAME MANNER.....FUCKING DUH!
really?
they broke every rule of civilized warfare ... bombing marketplaces, mosques, flying airplanes into buildings.... knowing that people like you would blame our own .... and they were right.
and yes, both sides have killers. both political parties, too.

Why is it so hard to admit that we are as guilty of cold blooded acts as the other side? Like it or not, we are as guilty as they are.littleflower wrote:cold blooded killers? they are on the other side ....
Now, let's acknowledge our mistakes, reaffirm our values and move on to actually be the greatest country in the world--not just in name and words only, but by practicing what we preach. If we don't, we are no better than the terrorists.

I'd sure like to see the U.S. just be open, and honest, about "conflict".jkisha wrote:Why is it so hard to admit that we are as guilty of cold blooded acts as the other side? Like it or not, we are as guilty as they are.littleflower wrote:cold blooded killers? they are on the other side ....

I could see a simple policy:
1. We don't want to go to war.
2. We will go to great lengths to avoid it, but, will not be held hostage or for ransom.
3. If you choose, through action or aggression, (towards us or our friends), to force us into war, we will break your shit and kill you.
to me, that would be clean and clear, even the north koreans and middle eastern dictators could understand that.

That IS our policy...or it was. Now it's like this--1. We don't want to go to war.
2. We will go to great lengths to avoid it, but, will not be held hostage or for ransom.
3. If you choose, through action or aggression, (towards us or our friends), to force us into war, we will break your shit and kill you.
1. We don't want to go to war.
2. We will go to great lengths to avoid it, including being held hostage or for ransom. or for political expediency or campaign contributions
3. If you choose, through action or aggression, (towards us or our friends), to force us into war, we will do our best to not bother you and our best to appease our detractors, up to and including letting our soldiers die because our response to your naked agression might have annoyed you.
And it's been that way since the sixties. Thanks, Hippies!

Well, that wasn't the policy of the last administration...they WANTED to go to war with Iraq and they did--for no good (truthful) reasons what-so-ever.lurker wrote:That IS our policy...or it was. Now it's like this--1. We don't want to go to war.

And I agree with you on point number 3. If we do go to war, no holds barred--except, no torture, just kill them quickly and painlessly.

Homeland security = Homeland Gestapo
Why do you suppose Obombya wanted someone skilled in interrogation to lead intelligence efforts at the Department of Homeland Security? Especially someone who may have been involved in torture?

I don't agree with everything that Obama is doing. For one thing, he's a bit timid on a variety of issues (energy, conservation, torture investigation, don't-ask-don't-tell, and so forth). I especially think that he's let the financial "system" (i.e. "con game") off the hook far too lightly. In short, I want him to live up to his rhetoric.
However, the wingnuts are way off base about Obama. For example, Rush has blamed SC Gov. Sanford's recent self-immolation on Obama:
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200906250024
Now, Sanford started his affair well before Obama was elected, so it would make marginally more sense to blame Bush or Cheney, but anyone with a decent grip on reality would not blame anyone but Sanford.
Of course, Rush and his cohorts lack that kind of grip.

Two pieces of good news for the Blue Team today:
1. The MN Supremes just declared Franken the winner. Unanimously.
2. Sanford, that sleaze from SC, continues to score own goals. Now he admits he lied about the details. I don't care about his sex life, but going AWOL on his state, continually lying about it, and being a rank hypocrite seem to me to be more than adequate reason for him to leave. Soon.
