I also may be way off here but, isn't this also a curse that plauges relationships?

you have a point, bullD. i guess we always included that in it, too.

it was mostly discussed in our house... i lived with a lot of talented, passionate, beautiful women. oh, and the boys, too. who are also all of the above, except maybe not so passionate. but then i wasn't an SO for them, so i couldn't tell you.

never mind, i'm getting way off topic here.

people love us until they realise we're human and that we get depressed, too. then we're no fun....
it is when I realize that the charming ones are human that I begin to love them. Otherwise they are just clowns. The opposite is also true. I find professional drama queens to be dreadfully boring. It's the same condition really. Folks who think all the world is their stage. Tiresome.

If you have a healthy balance and people can't rock with it then you need to rock with better folk.

i think that's where you have to be choosy about what and who you pour energy into. it's always hard to tell at first. but those that only want your energy are vampires. it's not to say that people can't be drawn to you for that reason and then find there's more that they love, but the ones who aren't interested in dealing with the full scope of your persona aren't worth your time.

just remember that there are many people out there who love you even when you aren't fun, and for whom 'fun' isn't the main/only draw.

and for those who just want to feed off of you - fuck em.

Rian will totally kick me in the ass for this but...

is it truly like that all the time or is that how you feel? Are your social interactions not satisfying if you are not driving the fun bus?

i'm not gonna ass kick ya. your hard questions aren't always right, but normally worthwhile and thought-provoking.

if it's of any interest I still loathe the little fucking things and have to resist the urge to mentally recalculate a person's I.Q. to be 10 points lower every time they use one.

i mean, obviously... some of y'all would be drooling over a macaroni collage in one of this nation's finer institutions instead of at a keyboard... (and that's just one day of posting) so I can no longer attribute their use to lack of actual intelligence.

so i grit my teeth and repeat the mantra "some of my best friends use smilies. some of my best friends use smilies."

no, Stuart... some of my most worthwhile social interactions are the ones that are hard and painful and depressing... because it's at these times that it's a give-and-take. Right now, for instance: the shit i'm dealing with is good, in a way. It's deep and meaningful and hurtful and human and leading forward, always forward. it's teaching me new things about myself and helping me learn about others. it SUCKS, but it's good, too.

It's the vampires that I hate.

(and, if I'm gonna kick your ass, it's gonna be over something alot more inflammatory than that... say, a cheuvanistic generalization or something)

I odn't use smilies on this board because they are so declasse and i can be as snooty as anyone. But I do sort of like them in their original form--an attempt to humanize an unwieldy and techinical process to make it more expressive in emotional terms. Besides, I have that dry deadpan way of joking, and a following emoticon can make a difference between get a laugh and getting someone's back up.
