Russia's negotiator Slutsky says there's been "significant progress in the negotiations" and he expects there may be a signed deal in the next 2 to 3 days.

This is a notable development in light of the growing awareness at the Kremlin of the decrepit state of the RU army & the blunders of the pre-invasion intel. If confirmed by UA side, this would likely mean a truce on Zelenskys' terms.

https://twitter.com/christogrozev/statu ... 4911325185

* Hmmm. Putin agreed to that? Or as usual they talk without really knowing what is Putin doing or planning to do.
* Too good to be true
* This doesn't tally with the continued targeting of civilians or the tenor of Russian propaganda [or does it...]
* Hope. Disillusionment. Hope. Disillusionment. Hope. Disillusionment. Hope. Disillusionment. Russian psychological tactics.
* impossible. it is just a smoke screen, russians are already amassing new forces for a new attack, there is 0 chance that there will be any kind of truce from putin
* So there will be a massive attack by russia in the next few days.
* For Russia ceasefire is only a tool to conduct this war, their forces are disorganized and they need time to rebuild and resupply without enemy harassment. Russia is not going to withdraw.
* In 2-3 days new fresh troops are available and in positions…….idk why ppl still trust in any Russian words
Con to that: Russia continues consolidating areas. Has widened its attacks across Ukraine.

Short report regarding food supplies in Kyiv. The situation in my local store is good. Plenty of everything one needs to get by. Huge delivery of bottled water had just come in. No more photos though, security enlightened me that the photo ban also includes the inside of stores.

There were about 2000 militiamen from LNR.. About 20, 25 left of those. Now they're sending them from DNR
- Why not hit them all at once ?
- They can't. Lots of civilians.. They couldnt until now. Now they say shoot them all, children or not children, shoot them all.. We're in some town now, some plant with old machines... And this building, we have a sniper there, so this sniper just shot three people who were pointing with a flashlight at us. Then he went down, recharged, had a chat with us and said now we can sleep..

The more I think about this, the worse of a feeling I get. As is clear since he arrested the FSB general(s), he is no longer in denial of the failure of his Ukrane plan, thus we can either withdraw or go out with a bang. But there's no workable compromise that Ukraine can agree to that will not result in Putin being disgraced domestically. So what's the mythical agreement RU says they are close to? Sounds implausible.

Hoping for the best, but the "two or three days till agreement" that RU introduced into the equation sounds more and more like a threat.

WASHINGTON — Russia asked China to give it military equipment and support for the war in Ukraine after President Vladimir V. Putin began a full-scale invasion last month, according to U.S. officials.

Russia has also asked China for additional economic assistance, to help counteract the battering its economy has taken from broad sanctions imposed by the United States and European and Asian nations, according to an official.

American officials, determined to keep secret their means of collecting the intelligence on Russia’s requests, declined to describe further the kind of military weapons or aid that Moscow is seeking. The officials also declined to discuss any reaction by China to the requests.

[The following had people arguing about the details that they'd found out (rating of bridge, ditch vs. mud, etc.), so some basis as an actual event?]

Ukrainian villagers use Ukrainian flags, end up taking out four Russian tanks.
  • Four Russian tanks enter a Ukrainian village. Villagers watch carefully from distance. Russians transfer fuel from two of the tanks to the other two, get onto those two and leave the two dry tanks in the village.
  • Villagers plant Ukrainian flags on the two remaining dry tanks.
  • The other two tanks return, see tanks with Ukrainian flags and open fire, destroying them completely. Keep driving around looking for their other two tanks.
  • One of the tanks drives onto a bridge. The bridge collapses, tank falls into river, everyone inside dies.
  • The remaining tank keeps driving around, gets lost and finally gets stuck in a ditch. Russians get out of it and walk away.
Engagement losses:
* Ukrainians - some flags.
* Russians - four tanks and at least one tank crew.

p.s.
Word going around that with the weapons donated & delivered to Ukraine, and subsequent distribution, now in most areas nearly every Ukrainian soldier has an anti-tank or anti-tank/low-level-aircraft missle.

The choices seem to be:

Send 20K fly boys, anti air and special forces, do the no-fly zone and push the fucker to see what he does right now …

Or do nothing and …

Send 500K later when he uses the same move over and over.

At least we can start making more of them small tactical nukes like right quick.

David Corn of Mother Jones today broke another news story: a Russian government agency distributed a 12-page document to media outlets telling them, “It is essential to use as much as possible fragments of broadcasts of the popular Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who sharply criticizes the actions of the United States [and] NATO, their negative role in unleashing the conflict in Ukraine, [and] the defiantly provocative behavior from the leadership of the Western countries and NATO towards the Russian Federation and towards President Putin, personally….”

The call to feature Carlson is in the section titled “Victory in Information War.”

After the place where she was meant to give birth was attacked, she was taken to another hospital.

Her baby was born by Caesarean section, but showed no signs of life. The surgeon, Timur Marin, told the Associated Press news agency that the woman's pelvis had been crushed and her hip detached. Medics said that as they were trying to save her life, she realised she was losing her baby and shouted, "Kill me now!"

When it became clear to them that the child was stillborn, they tried to resuscitate the mother, but realised after 30 minutes that it was hopeless. Doctors said they did not have time to take the woman's name before her husband and father came to retrieve her body.

Russia now has 100 percent of the forces it assembled prior to invading committed to the fight. It has under 90 percent of those forces available to them, after taking losses, senior U.S. defense official says.
Russia deployed 75% of its permanent readiness ground forces to Ukraine, so this would mean it has lost ~6-7% of its total. Keep in mind that much of these losses have been sustained by Russia's elite forces: VDV, spetsnaz, 1st Tank Army, etc. That will take time to reconstitute.

Not to mention, Russia has struggled to meet its targets for contract servicemen in the Russian military. It is losing many of them here and of course there will be a question as to whether future conscripts decide to continue their service after watching this war.

I see someone is proposing a $300/month gas voucher.

Since the average car uses about 40gal/month, at $5/gal the average cost is $200.
If the increase per gal under Biden has been $1.50, the increase per month for the average car owner is $60.
So give then $300.
Another case of take my tax money and give it to someone else.

June 2008: barrel of oil was $126, and a gallon of gas was $4.11.

Now in March 2022: a barrel of oil is $106, and a gallon of gas is $6.02.

Currently in the costody of the police...
Maria Ovsyannikova, an editor at the popular Russian state-owned television station Channel One, charged onto its nightly news broadcast Monday to protest the invasion of Ukraine

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/03 ... -news.html

“No War. Stop the war! Don’t believe the propaganda! They’re lying to you here! Russians against war.” During the few seconds before the broadcast cut away, Ovsyannikova repeated the words, “No to war! Stop the war!” She was promptly arrested. The authorities say she will face misdemeanor charges for violating Russia’s new ban on “disinformation” about the invasion of Ukraine.

In a prerecorded message shared on social media after the live-television incident,
https://twitter.com/christogrozev/statu ... 0918428673
Ovsyannikova made the following remarks:
“What is happening in Ukraine is a crime. And Russia is the aggressor here. And responsibility for this aggression rests on the conscience of a single man: Vladimir Putin. My father is Ukrainian. My mother is Russian. And they’ve never been enemies. And this necklace I’m wearing is a symbol of that fact that Russia must immediately end this fratricidal war. And our fraternal peoples will still be able to make peace. Unfortunately, I’ve spent many of the last few years working for Channel One, doing Kremlin propaganda, and I’m deeply ashamed of this. Ashamed that I allowed lies to come from the TV screen. Ashamed that I allowed the zombification of Russian people. We were silent in 2014 when all this had just started. We didn’t protest when the Kremlin poisoned Navalny. We just silently watched this anti-human regime at work. And now the whole world has turned its back on us. And the next 10 generations won’t wash away the stain of this fratricidal war. We Russians are thinking and intelligent people. It’s in our power alone to stop all this madness. Go protest. Don’t be afraid of anything. They can’t lock us all away.”

We've all seen abandoned or destroyed Russian vehicles with the heavy machine guns quite obviously removed.

Well, here's the answer to where they go: a Ukrainian TDF technical with a newly acquired 6P17 tank-mount NSV HMG in #Poltava.

US told allies that Russia requested 5 types of military gear from China, including #SurfaceToAirMissiles. Also #drones, armored vehicles, logistics vehicles & intelligence-related equipment. US did not provide underlying intelligence in cables to allies.

Send 500K later when he uses the same move over and over.

Maybe Putin will stop at the Dnieper and we will have an East and West Ukraine, with perhaps a guerilla war in East Ukraine. I think Putin will take over the entire Black Sea frontage of Ukraine. Moldova is not defended by NATO, but taking that will really piss off Romania who is connected to Moldova. Finland is not something that should fall into Russian hands, and they have a lot of technology expertise. Hopefully China will veto any Russian moves on Kazakhstan. It is all somewhat academic, Russia does not have enough military to occupy a large amount of hostile land. Sadly we could see mine warfare come back in a big way. They used it in Afghanistan.

On Russian state TV they are saying: "there is not sense to stop on Ukraine, we move further" and "we will launch (our missiles), the whole world will be ruined". Those who stupidly believe we are not in the WWIII already, and try to "de-escalate" are either idiots or criminals.

Oh, I don’t take all the learned wargamers and academics seriously on this one.

They have some merit on tactics and details, a pleasant exercise for sure, but they absolutely fail when one of the sides is no longer “reasonable”.

Breaking News: One of the sides is no longer reasonable!

I’d much rather listen to Gary Kasparov who has lived the insanity of the Soviet Union and understands the generational psyche of the Russian experience.

There’s a century of damage and oppression done to a people that we simply can’t comprehend.

A tape today revealed that Cawthorn called into a right-wing talk show on January 6th and said he had brought “multiple weapons” with him that day, suggesting he had known what was planned. Also today, Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, appeared to be trying to get ahead of a story about her participation in the events of January 6 when she told her story to the right-wing Free Beacon. It reported: “She did not help organize the White House rally that preceded the riot at the Capitol. She did attend the rally, but got cold and left early. And most importantly, in her view, her involvement with the event has no bearing on the work of her husband, Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas.”

The memorandum prohibited the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.[2]

Federal law requires justices to recuse themselves from any proceeding in which their “impartiality might reasonably be questioned.” It also compels justices to recuse if their spouse has “an interest that could be substantially affected by the outcome” of the case. Right now, the Supreme Court doesn’t have an enforcement mechanism or procedure for recusal–it’s left up to the judge to determine that.

So, when the Court approved the house committee to obtain documents from the Trump White House and Judge Thomas was the only dissenting opinion, it makes you think, doesn’t it?
