Is there anything other than the Garrity offered?
I bought one of these when they were closed out at this price a year ago and it's a good light except for the switch which is nightmarish to operate.
I didn't care for the light pattern as much as the brinkmann, but it's not too bad.
But the switch is so bad that I usually have to use another light to find the switch and operate it in the dark.
If you don't have a 3-watt, I'd recommend spending $22 on the 3-watt brinkmann at target before you buy this one.
It's not a bad backup light though and it's great that it uses AAs, instead of the AAAs in the brinkmann.
I always pick up the brinkmann first.
I have used the garrity as a tent light mostly.
The switch is really horrible to use by feel.
Okay when you can see to use the switch.
The brinkmann has great feel to the switch, by contrast.
I often use it as a momentary on only, in fact.

Well, if you want fancy, you need a PWM controlled light.

I think Niterider used to have the cheapest true PWM lamp once and they do bike lights too.
There is that dual waterproof one used for caving- Stenlight.

ibdave, what's your take on the units?
disclaimer: stuff on woot is often weird in some way or other...that's why they have it to sell-off cheap methinks

WELL! my 3 closeout headlamps arrived yesterday and I likey. OK, point taken gyre the two switches' location have to be memorized. The blinking red front/rear is neat, can be used with or without the main front lamp, and the battery pack in back is out of the way. I tried it out tonight and love it...plus how could I resist as the writeup mentioned 'being naked'

I got a pretty neat idea to share here - I'm sure others have thought of it before, but here it is anyway:
First off, make a tutu. You can use this link for no-sew instructions.
I, to be honest, haven't made mine yet. But I plan on starting either tonight or tomorrow. Once I'm finished making it, I will be attaching a set of 24 solar powered LEDs.
They're intended for staking into your garden, but I've read that they only weigh a few ounces, so I plan to sew the panel onto the waistband in the back of the tutu.
(I'm sure if you wanted to, you could use the stake, but that seems a bit messy to me.)
During the day, I'll charge my lights, and at night, I'll have a glowy tutu.

My guess is "one website" but I'm sure there are plenty sprinkled through the thread.
Apparently, the light set has 8 lights on it. Still works out.Generic Anonymity wrote:I got a pretty neat idea to share here - I'm sure others have thought of it before, but here it is anyway:

Re: Congo Blue
The technical triumph of our Burn this year was a lighting trick that sounded too good to be true. But it worked beautifully and anyone who plays with uv light oughta be hepped to it.
There is a standard color of stage gel called "Congo Blue." These are those translucent filters that go over a spotlight to color its light. Congo Blue is the deepest, most saturated blue made and is really too dark for most applications.
But!
We were told that Congo Blue used over regular halogen lights produced light that not only did not wash out the bright glow of uv reactive paints, but actually gave them a kick. Given all the dough we have spent on black lights over the years, this just seemed too good to be true. But it was true, producing a faint moonlight glow that worked well with our jungle and making anything that already glowed, glow like crazy. We didn't try it on its own without uv and I suspect it would not be a substitute for actual black light, but as a supplement, this stuff was amazing.
VERY TRUE! Infact, most Blue LED's have the right wavelength to make anything fluorescent fluoresce. I figured that out playing with my LED Par 64's just the other day!

Candles can get slumpy in the heat, and if you use one in the tent, Be Careful. Candles in jars work nicely if you don't break the jar.
We have those flickering LED Christmas candles. Battery operated, they turn on at dusk and off at dawn. A neat and nifty way to provide ambient "coming home late at night" light in the shade area. We have a florescent on a battery for "big" light, but you have to stay on top of it or your buzzed campmates forget to turn it off and it attracts hippies like moths.

I promised to be in a tutu back in '07 and didn't have one.
So this year, I may have several! I love the lighting idea as well. I am so stealing that.

Agreed! We have one and have gotten so much play out of it. Very cool.Elorrum wrote:been playing with this lately. I like putting it upside down on the floor or ground and it makes a nice pattern of lights on the ceiling. I used this under my shade shelter this last burn, and enjoyed the lights on both sides of the light colored nylon.

just 4 little leds flashing or fading and the lenses on the housing multiply and spread the lights out. turns off after one hour.

I, for one, have had enough catastrophe in my life. I don't know that I will be to "christmas tree" level, but I will be lit up.

I'm assuming you need a website to purchase glow and led blinkies? I found some really neat stuff at extremeglow.com. It's all really cheap, and I used a 10% BM discount coupon code: BMNEG09
Has anyone else purchased from them?
I haven't tried this product out, but it does look cool. I wonder if it would look neat on the playa surface?
yes I think so. you could mount it up on a post that would fit in the hole on the bottom weight, use some duct tape to shim it up a bit or tape it around the base. It would throw a nice pattern on the ground.

Thanks SO MUCH for this answer! I'm definitely going to get one of these, now! Sounds like it also might be nice to attach to a bike and project on the ground all around!
