She's performing at a benefit next year.

I found a lot of ex-olympics skaters and others perform at the Lido, with no publicity.
Part of the attraction is the stunning number of unavailable stars you find performing feet from your table.

I'm tired of turkey.

I've had a few cups of coffee and am ready to have a productive day. Very happy to report that Black Friday was a kinder gentler experience this year. I had so many gentle and appreciative shoppers, some thankful handshakes and "It's o.k." responses to being out of special items. I was taken aback by the patience of many, and not bothered by the impatient few. I went up ladders to take down, and sell, display models of sold out items (now nobody has to be disapointed by seeing something that is not available) I think people are basically clued into the ordeal being a kind of lottery and not a guarantee of cheap unbelievable deals. Thank you to all the wonderful shoppers I had the pleasure to serve.

good for you Pinemom, you've got to have some turkey in the house, no question. When turkeys were 6 bucks three weeks ago, I bought one and cooked it. Froze most of it, and had a turkey sandwich many days running. Then I got another 6 dollar turkey, because the freezer didn't seem so full, and the price was so good. Cooked that on Thursday, went to sister's house for turkey, had a turkey potluck at work yesterday. I took some (I must say) killer gravy and saw it sit untouched on the buffet table. I wish I had that gravy for some turkey and dumplings. Freezer is full of meat and soup and stock. I still have the one carcass I boiled already, need to take the bones out. But the thrill is gone.

Elorrum, happy to hear that Black Friday was kinder and gentler. No doubt it was your pleasant demeanor.

Pinegranny; Are you planning a kitchen renovation soon? Or are the two ovens part of your wish list?

And will someone please explain green bean casserole? I've never heard of it until this Thanksgiving and nearly every post mentions it. This is not part of our tradition up here in the snowy north country.

happy saturday-after-thanksgiving ... !

deb, i had never heard of green bean casserole, either ... i just looked it up, it seems to be a combo of green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and fried onions .... probably pretty yummy. we always do simple green beans cooked with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, and bacon .... and of course, we always cook too much bacon, because people are constantly sneaking a bit while they cook ... hahaha! yum.

i am also full of turkey. and pie! i had a bit of two pumpkin pies, an apple pie, apple tart, and cherry tart. yum!! naturally, one must try a bit of everything ....

and now it's diet time ....

fortunately, wine is on my diet. anyone else drinking, or is it still too early?

it's never really too early for a nice red wine, is it? It's 4:30 here so I'm sure it would be fine.

Sounds like everyone is laying about this weekend recovering from the big eating fest.

I think I like the idea of green beans with olive oil rather than mushroom soup but I'll have to try it to be sure.

We go with green beans and bacon instead of green bean casserole. Pour me some of that wine!

Whatever you do, it's a good idea to label your dish.

A hundred feet of mystery dishes and people wonder why no one is eating their "What could it be?"

I've only had a tiny bit of turkey, at Golden Corral buffet. Can't really cook until I get the kitchen put back together (new counters and backsplash). I'm waiting for some special Mexican tiles so I can start the backsplash mosaic, I got my Day of the Dead tiles today. Yay!

I'm going to cook a whole turkey day dinner for Christmas, with all my favorite foods and nothing I don't like.

hi lonestoner!

i don't know, gyre ... sometimes it's better to just eat something without knowing what's in it .... i'm a hopeless label reader who cooks just about everything fresh, so it's kind of a treat to eat something full of salt and fat and sugar and preservatives ...

gyre, good tip on labeling at the buffet. Refrigerated gravy does not look like gravy.

Green bean casserole is a canned french fried onion delivery system, and it is tasty. Not a part of my family's holiday tradition, but we have a traditional jello, so I am not throwing any stones here.

Playing records the other night got me thinking of my other dismissed media, VHS tapes, 8mm movies. We were talking about Star Trek at dinner, and that brought up Galaxy Quest, a great spoof. Easy enough to plug in the VCR that I didn't plug in the last time I moved the t.v. Next, I want to have the super 8 and reg8 projectors running by Christmas. I have a lot of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin that needs to be seen again. There's also a great Laurel and Hardy short where they sell Christmas trees, predictable total destruction. Nobody escalates conflict like they do. What if somebody blew dust into Laurel and Hardy's car at the greeter's gate?

Is this it?
I always heard they did hit the wrong house.
I have a film they did in spanish in their own voices.
Really over the top and funny.

Big Business

Released by MGM, 20 Apr 1929 - 2 reels
Producer: Hal Roach
Director: James Horne
Cast: Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, James Finlayson, Tiny Sandford, Lyle Tayo

Stan and Ollie are door-to-door Christmas tree salesmen in this film, which was actually filmed Christmas week of 1928. When they come to the home of one James Finlayson, a fight erupts that builds into each side trying maniacally to destroy the property of the other. This was the best film in which The Boys did their "reciprocal destruction" routine — one party watches passively as the other does some damage to his person or property and then reciprocates. The result was perhaps their funniest silent short. A lot of the best laughs come from Fin's reactions and from cutaways to Tiny Sandford as a policeman, calmly taking in the proceedings — an aspect of the joke that was often omitted when they did similar bits. (There is no truth to the oft-repeated story that the crew accidentally set up at, and therefore destroyed the wrong house.)

yes, Big Business I have that on standard 8mm.

I was on an ebay kick a few years ago and got a bunch of old silents. They are selling Christmas trees on a sunny southern California day. That in itself looks funny.

~~pours glass of wine~~

Suppose everyone's gone to bed now.

Kitchen renovations seem to be a common theme - what with Pinegranny dreaming of two ovens and AntiM splashing colourful tiles in a new reno job. Got me to thinking of doing something in my kitchen too. Just dreaming out loud for the moment though.

How about some Jimi Hendrix for his birthday.

I find that is nearly impossible to believe. Besides torture is a crime. Meanness is merely human nature for some. Not you, though. Yesterday you were rescuing silly bird hunters, remember how good that made you feel. :D

Can you get music on your computer there? or is it the same one as in the spring?

I've been playing Jimi Hendrix off and on all day.
