Since the Borg has essentially created a private party that's by invite only, and they have made it clear they don't want "average" people, like most us local Nevadans, it is high time this event leaves the state. The Unburns proved we don't need the Borg. They can go back to San Francisco and have their private party there.

This is great, no tickets, but I can get them on the big “E” site, why don’t burning man put names on the tickets that people buy, so people can’t scalp them , sorry back in the day that’s what the The burning man leaders did and I assume since someone died, they’re doing again.
If burning man really what’s to fix itself just put a name on the ticket of the buyer, and checked at the gate, so no scalping on tickets, if you can’t make it return to ticketfly for full refund, then the ticket is resold at face value.

4,000 in FOMO
35,000 in the Stewards Sale
10,000 Main Sale
5,000 in Ticket Aid
3,000 OMG

is approx 57,000 tickets with publicly disclosed destinations/allotments. ~ 40,000 of them are "preferential" in that someone gets to decide where they go and 17,000 were "up for grabs".

The big “E” site 17, 000 tickets for sale

I’m happy to see that after 2 years of pandemic nonsense some things have stayed the same

To answer OP’s question, awful as usual, but no fear there’s still a sale of 3,000 tickets in July during the OMG sale :D

I received a confirmation email when registering for the sale but was never emailed a link, so it didn't go well.

Seems like lots of other folks are in the same boat. It sounds like it happened to the people who registered right when registration opened.

Maths dictate that disappointment is the norm in this one. The event is just too popular and well known, but not in a "it sucks, don't go" kind of way. Always weird computer shenanigans with the main sale. Though there simply isn't a way to make it "work" for everyone now. Very sorry it doesn't work for Burners. Maybe draw ticket recipients from the registered list, full on lottery for main sale...

As an aside, there's plenty of opportunities to get a ticket in the months to come. Best of luck

Yes, bri, the main sale could be a real lottery and not a ten second computer speed race. Since it is all there is for us unaffiliated, and thus non-essential, burners. Just let us be lucky, or not.

I'm going to keep an eye out on tickets, but I'm not going to stress myself out any more than I did today. I want to go, but I don't have the motivation of years past.

They did have that temporary registration snafu early on, though they said afterward that anyone already registered was fine. Not sure if that played into this issue in some way.

Now that DGS is firmly in place, a formal Main Sale ticket lottery doesn't seem like that bad of an idea to me. BMP still may not have the stomach for it though, and I'm sure they don't want to hear crap about how their lottery was somehow rigged. Their thinking may be that it is better to just let it be a clusterfuck, and move on.

The 10,000 Main Sale ticket allocation though, seems extraordinarily anemic. Does anyone have a sense that perhaps the low number is a one time thing, to accommodate commitments from the past two years, and may improve next year?

As posted elsewhere, but worth repeating...

I would also like to point out that the ticket broker sites, who are getting posted all over the data-mining-forward social media sites, do not have any tickets. They historically engage in speculation (they're posting adverts at high prices in anticipation of eventually getting tickets). In some cases the jerks started posting their listings before Burning Man even announced details. For more info about marked-up listings, see this post on the Ticket Support FAQ.

It should also come as no surprise that not all events on the planet (including campouts and festivals) are sold out on the day. Especially ones that haven't been around as long or that may be lesser known. Interesting fact: while Burning Man started in 1986 and moved to the Black Rock Desert in 1991, even Burning Man did not experience a sellout until 2011. And that year, tickets did not actually sell out until mid-July. I won't knock on anybody else's events, I like to think everyone's doing something to carve out a niche and I do genuinely hope everyone is successful. After some of the serious hardships that venue owners, event producers, artists, mutant vehicle builders, theme camp builders and others have endured, they are all deserving of success and great experiences for their participants.

No, Burning Man is not an invite-only party. While today's sale only had around 10K tickets plus vehicle passes, several thousand tickets are also available in the FOMO and OMG Sales, through the Secure Ticket Exchange, and the Ticket Aid program (though that one is needs-based). The Stewards Sale (formerly known as the Directed Group Sale) did increase ticket allotments this year to account for a diversity initiative, but remember that those groups have a multitude of additional challenges as well. None of them magically gets bestowed with all the tickets they'll need, it is intended as a leg up so that people who have a proven track record of being good stewards of the culture (building and bringing amazing art, vehicles, and theme camp experiences) can ensure that their key people are able to make it.

It is probably also worth pointing out that Burning Man's do-ocracy and open-to-anyone ethos applies here. Anyone can come up with an awesome theme camp concept, art installation, or rockstar mutant vehicle design, register their project(s) then execute it well and leave no trace. In the span of a year or two (because the groups participating in the Stewards Sale have all put in the time and energy), anyone who delivers could be included in a future Stewards Sale.

Lonesome Bri hit the nail on the head, statistically speaking it was impossible that everybody would get the tickets that they wanted or needed. From the limited publicly posted info, we know Burning Man's Main Sale had previously experienced well over 100K people registered (and that's after scrubbing for known bad actors). While some festivals struggle to sell through their tickets, others are reporting brisk sales, and from what I've seen established larger scale events and destinations are seeing record demand.

Take a little breather after the stress of today, and then figure out if you want to be determined to go in 2022. I've been participating since 2004, moderating since 2007, and admin since 2011 and something I see every year is that those who are really determined and put in the work usually find a way to make it happen. I won't lie, it is work (though to be fair, even if you got tickets today there is a lot of work to do). Participate on the boards to figure out your camp, projects, and prep. I know that sounds plug-tastic, but I can assure you I am in no way paid per user or per post, and unlike FB, Hive, etc... ePlaya does no data mining. Through your posts, you will show potential sellers that you are the good home they may want their ticket to go to, so that once our ticket boards open up (in the next few weeks), you tilt the odds in your favor. Participate in your local regional groups if you can. Not only will you potentially meet some new friends, you may get connected with camps or projects that you're excited to become a part of, and you may get a line on the tickets you seek.

Congrats to those who were successful in the sale, and good luck to those who are still looking. It's been a couple years so the stat isn't fresh in my mind, but every year between a quarter and a third of all tickets sold change hands at least once between the time they were purchased and the time they come through the gates. A significantly larger portion of Burning Man tickets change hands at face value compared with other sold out concerts, festivals, and events, there is still reason to be hopeful.

Well said. Plenty of people loading up on tickets and end up not going as well. Where there’s a will (to go) there’s a way. Main sale has always been a bit of a mess, nothing new this year - no need to be stressed out about it
