"...the scent choked with congestion and room for millions more."
Well, at least room for one more seeing as he took his own life.

Yeah, I think that was me, actually. If you were in the vicinity of Dubious and Creed, that is. Sounds like something I'd say.

Your compassion is astounding. I'm no apologist for suicides, but jesus, the guy had to be in some fairly serious pain. Making jokes about it and calling him names is a bit callous, don't you think?

Regardless, the events of his personal life don't diminish the genius of his work, which is considerable.

Callous? You're only discovering this of me (and others) now?

You oughts'ta toughen up that skin of yours a little bit kiddo. There's plenty more callous, gallows humor where that last little bit came from. I'll spare you with my re-review of his 'Trout Fishing in America.'

BTW, a genius? I'd differ. No more a poetic genius than the Bee-Gees were musical genuises. 'Loading Mercury With a Pitchfork' I'll grant was a damn good read.

hmm. speaking of which, have any of the ranger senior staff considered bringing the eplaya moderators in for training courses? i'm somewhat disturbed by the "we can do whatever we want in order to preserve the tone we want here" attitude in the "moderation of threads" thread in "feature requests" section.

Well, as long as "all the other kids are being callous, insensitive pricks" line of reasoning helps you sleep at night, it's fine by me.

Actually, I have no problem with tasteless humor, as long as it's actually funny. Next time start small. Go look up some dead baby jokes.

More negativity? Puhleaze!!!!!

I love thread drift but this is getting freakin ridiculous with all the negativity and personal attacks.

This is the e-playa, Burning Man's BBS. Sheesh, let's keep some of the BM spirit alive in here, and get rid of this negative bullshit.

Not everything can be positive but the personal attacks are just flat out uncalled for...it doesn't matter who started or said what, drop it.

You are all happy, shiny beings full of light and joy.

Do I have the Burning Man spirit now?

Sorry, I'm just in a shitty mood today. Peace, Badger.

For the record, the dead baby thing was supposed to be funny, not an attack.

You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else. You are the all singing all dancing crap of the world.

Maybe so, but as a snowflake falls and the air heats up during it's descent, it can melt around the edges. That melting can cause it to transform into a pattern that is different. We might all start out the same but the path we take can determine if we end up just like everyone else, or if we emerge from the clouded mists as a different and unique snowflake. That's a long way of saying you make your own opportunities.

"Ours is a great profession. There is a fascination of watching a figment of the imagination emerge through the aid of science to a plan on paper. Then it moves to realization in stone or metal or energy. Then it brings jobs and homes to men. Then it elevates the standards of living and adds to the comforts of life. That is the engineer's high privilege.
The great liability of the engineer compared to…other professions is that his works are out in the open where all can see them. His acts step by step, are in hard substance. He cannot bury his mistakes in the grave like doctors. He cannot argue them into thin air or blame the judge like the lawyers. He cannot, like the politicians, screen his shortcomings by blaming his opponents and hoping that the people will forget.
On the other hand unlike the doctor, his is not a life among the weak. Unlike the soldier, destruction is not his purpose. Unlike the lawyer, quarrels are not his daily bread. To the engineer falls the job of clothing the bare bones of science with life, comfort and hope. No doubt, as years go by, people forget which engineer did it, even if they ever knew…But the engineer himself looks back at the unending stream of goodness which flows from his successes with satisfactions that few professionals may know."
