Maybe there's a much bigger social stigma across the pond to admitting things like "I maxed out my credit cards to do this" or "I had to borrow money from a friend" or other things that are business as usual in the USA. Or maybe someone saw an opportunity to get a cheaper ticket (or any ticket at all, in the midst of scarcity) and cheated the system. We'll probably never know. But it touched a nerve, because it's something that we all suspected was happening out there, much like the shadowy dealings of scalpers and the amount of $800 tickets "from the early sale" that probably arrived with $380 printed on them.

What "proof" documents are required by BMORG for a LIT?

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Over here they just eat the overdraft fee to save face in the grocery line.

Really, this whole thing is just evidence to me that the LIT program should just be abolished or transformed into something more meaningful.

All that information was provided at the time of applying for the LIT to the org. The simple fact that someone had some very difficult time getting the playa and had to dig down to make the trip actually happen, should be of no concern to BBadger and Maladroit. Further, if the OP had to borrow money from a relative or sell personal items to make this trip, that too is personal info.
Like.

I worked Will Call this year, and most of the people picking up LIT from me were young people in their 20's. Quite a few were performers like fire-dancers. Some were from other lands. I can't say I dealt with anybody who looked and acted like they shouldn't have a LIT, but who knows?

Certainly there's some fraud, but honestly, I don't think it's rampant or to a degree that outweighs the benefits of diversity LIT's provide.

W2, or a pay stub, or disability statement, or student loan statement, mortgage statement, etc.

I thought there might be some sob story essay or something that had to be written, but nope.

Poor Mark Zuckerberg could send in his W2 with his $1 salary and a terrible mortgage payment he's responsible for. Poor fella is really hurting.
