Considering our present advanced state of culture, and how the Torch of
Science has now been brandished and borne about, with more or less
effect, for five thousand years and upwards; how, in these times
especially, not only the Torch still burns, and perhaps more fiercely than
ever, but innumerable Rushlights, and Sulphur-matches, kindled thereat,
are also glancing in every direction, so that not the smallest cranny or
dog-hole in Nature or Art can remain unilluminated,—it might strike the
reflective mind with some surprise that hitherto little or nothing of a
fundamental character, whether in the way of Philosophy or History, has
been written on the subject of Clothes.

many different propositions in many different modalities are in the air at
once. In order to compare propositions of different colors and flavors, as
it were, we have no basis for comparison but to examine the underlying
propositions themselves. Thus we are brought back to matters of
language and logic. Despite the name, propositional attitudes are not
regarded as psychological attitudes proper, since the formal disciplines of
linguistics and logic are concerned with nothing more concrete than what
can be said in general about their formal properties and their patterns of
interaction.
Schwartz and his colleagues suggest two possible trajectories to adaptive
expertise 1) innovate and then become efficient or 2) become efficient
and then practice innovating. In several studies of instructional
interventions, they have demonstrated that trajectory 1, innovation to
efficiency, is the better developmental path. Based on this finding, these
researchers have suggested that before learning procedures for solving
problems, students should first be given the opportunity to innovate and
attempt to discover solutions to novel problems without instruction.
Following this practice with innovation, students can then benefit from
routine practice, with less risk of becoming a routine expert or simply a
frustrated novice.

It is always night
Eternally ugly, this moon
With the smell of stale stars
Black dawn
Divided sunset
Not into equal halves
Twine into a loop
And re- rewind
Dark of bovine
Putrid oranges
Swollen grapes
They throb and ache
So flagrant in vein
Night breath has its own smell
But not a name
A heart with many souls
Each one seeping, curdled
Garroted in shame
Pygmies of homemade
Hide what they came to discover
It is nighttime again
