Hey ((((MDF))))) ((((((Grai))))) won't be too long now before we are all home again. And yes, do come to talk and love and hug. YG, as usual, has the right words for you Grai. He is a wise Pagan.

Just got word that my village, Hushville, has been placed at 5 and D, just like last year. Right up the road from Elliot in one direction and YG in the other. How good is that!!! Hope a lot of you will visit. Will have my ladies massage salon open for business starting on Saturday afternoon and most afternoons thereafter. I'll be working ARTery shifts on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So come visit there as well.

Now to bed

The movie Spark was pretty good. It covered some event history, and quite a bit of the administrative efforts. They spent too much time on the ticket lottery fiasco, but I suppose that was the big deal when they were shooting the film. They followed two artists thru the design and construction of their projects -- one of those was Burn Wall Street.

David Best was in the audience -- just three seats to my left. So now I'm hoping some of his abilities rubbed off on me -- maybe I breathed a dead skin cell of his.

I saw Misa in it, I saw knowmad briefly in a rough cut of the film, and I saw myself in it (in a wider shot, only a couple ppl have recognized me in it), and I recognized ePlaya user Headmaster Janus, the leader of the Playaskool camp (in addition to following Heartfulness and BWS, they follow him and talk about Playaskool. I gave him a lot of credit for coming to the boards and taking all the heat he did last year. While the turnkey thing brings up some valid concerns, I think also people villainized him and lashed out at him over their ticket frustrations that he had nothing to do with. I neither camp there nor made it over for any of their workshops, but know a few who did, I think they're doing some good things. I've also met him in person a few times since the burn. I'm glad he reconsidered and that Playaskool's going to be back this year. The ticketing bits were cringey to me, but I think it's because it was such a massive thing and I personally don't want to go through it again haha. But I think it's an important thing to chronicle - during the couple years they were filming, it happened to be when tickets went from being always available to something that can be hard to come by. It's both unfortunate and fortuitous all at once, I think it's an important part of the history of the event.

Anyhow, enough rambling from me. Aside from the flurry of server-crushing activity surrounding placement announcements, I'm really grateful for the IT team's awesomeness and support in both doing their own investigation into our sluggish performance issues and in clearing the way for an upgrade that'll have us running smoothly for a very long time. And it's a busy day ahead, aside from a few projects I've still got lots and lots of painting to do :)

Yes, I did see Misa in the film! I wasn't 100% sure it was her, but yeah, that sure looked like her.

And thanks to Trilo's latest report about servers, I now know why I'm having such difficulty -- again -- connecting to ePlaya.

Now.... Ladies and gentlemen.... The main Attraction of this post:

Yup, that's the camping trailer I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. We finally got it home. (No difficulty -- just had to grab the right buddy with the right truck when he had the time.) The serial number starts with "33", so that is probably its official length, but I measured it to almost 35' tip to tip. There is a slide-out on the other side. 10,800 pounds of kindling held together with staples. Almost new tires. I don't know what to do with it, but I cannot turn down "free". For right now, I'm not touching it until after TTITD.

...Unless I fall for the temptation to give it a good bath. It's been living in a redwood forest for 13 years, so it is a bit mossy. A good scrubbing, and fix the door, and it should look better than my house. It may be larger, too!

Hah, hah... Millicent is already 12 feet tall. I have not tried the appliances yet. ...Except the electric landing gear, which works fine. Lights work, electric brakes work. The interior is the iffy part. There are water stains, and outright rot in the floor. And somehow the dinette set has gone missing -- obviously because of floor repair in that area.

And when I look at how it is built, I get a strong urge to demolish it right away. Flimsy, to say the least. "Sticks & staples", and water leaks everywhere.

But my buddy, who has one of these himself, except it is close to brand new, said this beast might be worth several thousand dollars if I refurbish it.

Well, I'm turning in.

Nice camping trailer, Elliot! And hang in there, by this time next week we should be smooth sailing capacity-wise.

Had an interesting conversation with a campmate who was on the playa last week. The weather was apparently epically bad. These are people who are seasoned campers at both Burning Man plus on the playa for other events throughout the year. They lost all their shade structures (playa-ruggedized easy-ups, I think) on the first afternoon. One just blown a couple hundred feet and destroyed, the other was found the next day 2 1/2 miles downwind, destroyed beyond all usefulness. They were able to get the one that was merely destroyed hobbled into something semi-useful by the end of the next day, which was fortunate since apparently daytimes were hot. Hopefully things are nice and dry, but we get a fair amount of weather adventure come end of August.

Nice, Macglenver - get packing! Hell, if you play it right, you can pack the stuff going to the playa now, and most of what you'll be taking will be ready to roll weeks ahead of time. Good luck with the move!

Yeah, MDF, she finally earned her harsh playa weather merit badge (she's been going in July for years, but has only been going to Burning Man for the last 3 years). My condolences to the people she was camping with whose gear was destroyed, they lost half their Burning Man camp infrastructure and went from steady/busy playa prep to mad scramble.
