It's not so much oil getting more expensive as the $ getting weaker. What do you suppose will happen when the U.S. $ is no longer the world's monetary reserve? There are discussions among various foreign gov bankers to trade oil around the world in something other than the $. If the U.S. $ is no longer the world's monetary standard, the FED will not be able to print them any longer based on the "good faith of the USA".

The reason there is currently such a difference in the value of fuel around the world is because each country has to purchase U.S. $$ before buying oil. So the price they pay is based upon the exchange rate. That is one of the reasons the U.S. enjoys such a low price compared to other countries.

As the FED keeps printing trillions without anything more than our reputation to back them up, and as our reputation as a monetary responsible party decreases, world-wide trust in the $$ deflates while everything we buy inflates. I may be wrong, but this is the gist of what I understand from various sources.
...on the plus side, our debt is worth less on the world market too! We are spending our way to be debt free! Just like a late-night infomercial...

FYI, jet planes burn JP-4 generally. It's up 39 % in a year. It's pretty much the same as kerosene = to winter diesel. http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/economics/ ... index.aspx
Heating oil is pretty much diesel. It's up like crazy. Trains run on diesel. Buses mostly run on diesel. Farm tractors, construction equipment. Road shipping is all diesel. Boats run on diesel. Most ships use diesel. Some run bunker crude. The Wartsila runs on heavy fuel oil;
http://www.gizmag.com/go/3263/
Without gas, we can't get to the market. Without diesel, the food can't get to the market.

Just brought my car back up here to Tehachapi, and even though I don't do much traveling, it serves as a great genny. It's the Honda with a new engine so it purrs like a kitten. I can now watch direct tv till the cows come home. Before I was just depending on solar power to replenish the batteries, but now 10 - 15 min on the car and it's fully charges my stack. Very convient and nice, especially after being on a severe energy diet up here of just my phone for Internet and my laptop for movies and work. My tv setup would run for little under an hour before it was killed, and took most of the day to replenish them with just the solar. Now I get a deep charge from the car and the tv will run for 3 1/2 hours straight. Problem is, now I can only stomach about 30 min before I become nauseous, and have to turn it off. I just stocked the cabinets and the freezer, so there's plenty to eat. I filled up the car and a 5 gallon tank at $3.79. The rifridge and the stove is propane which is at 2.95 and i just filled up 4 tanks yesterday. So it's all good.

Dunno if I posted this earlier. The various highway depts are changing their "arrowboards" over from incandescent to LED. They sell the old stuff cheap. The new arrowboards only need a battery instead of a generator. They sell off the generators. I bought 2 single cylinder diesel engines with an alternator for $ 200 each. They run a 60 amp alternator on about 6/10s of a gallon of diesel per hour. I suspect that they could be made to run on veggie oil. They have the advantage of using a separate gen that is just a common car alternator.
One is a Lister and the other is a Yanmar.
I expect that we are going to get oil interruptions. There is already talk about opening the strategic petroleum reserve. We won't have any interruptions with domestic gas. That opens another possibility. http://cngvehiclesforsale.blogspot.com/ http://cngvehicles.net/
You can get an old Crown Vic for cheap.

Rabbi, if you aren't using a newer style, are you aware black and white tvs use far less power, though they can vary one to another?
And dimming them reduces power consumption too?

Foods to avoid. "Moyer says that he’s talked to potato growers “who say point-blank they would never eat the potatoes they sell. They have separate plots where they grow potatoes for themselves without all the chemicals.â€

Harley, that's great about the worms. I have to get some. On another topic, I'm back to unemployment. Announced job cuts rose 20 % from a year ago. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-0 ... -says.html

It seems that GOV is doing a lot of firings. "Planned firings increased 20 percent to 50,702 last month from February 2010, the first year-over-year gain since May 2009, according to a report today from Chicago-based Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. Announcements at federal, state and local government offices almost tripled from last year."
http://usawatchdog.com/unemployment-rate-flying-blind/
"According to Shadowstats.com, unemployment is 22.1% if calculated the way BLS did it before 1994. True unemployment and under-employment has been stuck above 22% for months. Shadowstats.com contends that before this so-called Great Recession is over, it will go as high as 35%."

So with diesel running $4.25 to $4.40 a gallon around here I try to keep the truck on the upper half of tank whenever possible. Problem is with a 40 gallon tank, that's 20 gallons. Most stations continue to shut it off at $75. I know I could plug the card in and make another purchase to top off, but DAMMIT! If that's all they wanna sell me, fuck 'em!

I'll have to remember to check for you next time I drive by the station.

And dare I say that when I'm not taking the bus, our car gets about forty miles to the gallon. :D

IIRC, the water itself is not radioactive, just the suspended particles in it.

so, there should be a way to either distill, filter, or let settle, to help with that.'
Maybe centrifuge?

Harley, the Berkey water filter seems to be the best. You could get your water from Hot Springs Ar. They claim that their water is 4,000 years old.

Not sure how old my water is,,,, just how long DID it take that drop to finds its way to my bladder?

I always keep SIX 5 gallon jugs filled and sealed. R/O and/or DISTILLATION takes care of particulates as heavy as radioactive material. You could almost do it like a gold-mining slough. The material gravitates out fairly easily. I wonder if you could take from the surface after a time,,,, you know as the particles settle,,, but that is assuming they would stop accumulating.
