Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Hi Fishy, AntiM, Elorrum, Msky,Mohairs and MDF. Quiet night here in Dodge. Been waking up at 4AM thinking about how to set up my camp next year. Fun stuff to contemplate, but maybe a tad early. I already have a new tent that's much simpler to set up and take down. Used the old one for 6 burns, so it deserves a rest. Had dinner with two of my daughters and two of my little grandkids aged 2.5 and 7, a girl and a boy in that order. Really a sweet evening. Now time for some quality snuggles in the NEB.

Good evening, Marty!
My sister and I liked your set up this year and are thinking about bringing a tent for next time.
Although I do like my dome it was NOT fun to set up at midnight this year!!
If we hadnt set it up we wouldnt had a place to sleep, so a tent would at least be shelter if we got in late again.
Sounds like you had a great night with your kids and grandkids!

Hey... speaking of the NEB, at one time someone was talking about making one for real. Anybody know what ever happened with that project?magicmarty wrote: Now time for some quality snuggles in the NEB.

So is Fall starting to come on already up there? Leaves are hinting at it here and the weather is turning cooler. I LOVE the cooler weather...

Yes, the weather is definatey fall like here.
Cooler and some leaves are turning on a few of the trees already.
I think its going to be a very colorful fall this year.
Last fall was pretty dry and the leaves turned brown right away and fell off very quickly.

Ahhh, maybe that will take the edge off....
I caught the toe of my left shoe on the bottom step on the back porch a few hours ago and down I went right on my left knee. Hurt like a sonofagun!! But now as Im laying here I can tell that I mustve twisted my left foot and left hand in the process also. I think Im gonna be STOVE UP in the morning as a friend of mine from Tennessee says!

Stove up... yep. Ouch!!! Sounds like an Ibuprofen kind of morning tomorrow. Hope it's not too much more than a bit of soreness.
We've had enough rain that I think we'll have a good Fall this go around, too
So you made it to the Burn this year, correct? Was the city bigger in diameter this year? I heard that the distance across the middle as quite a bit more than the usual 1 mile.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Oh, and the NEB... I remember some years ago in one of the previous Bar incarnations, someone was throwing out the idea of making a NEB for real that would travel to the playa each year, presumably with some trusted keeper. I thought this was a great idea but I've never had the time to pursue undertaking the task as a whole myself. I do, however, have a very special piece of cloth that I've been saving on the chance that it could be included in such a project, should it ever arise again.

Can you imagine how big a NEB could become if thousands of people brought a piece of fabric to add to it?!

I know! wouldn't a 20 foot square blanket that we could all wrap up in be cool! We've got our fingers crossed too for next year. I'm missing the dust and the dusty friends... a lot. We're throwing it out there to the universe and making plans so we'll see what the years brings us.
Well... Time for me to sign off I guess. I hope you sleep well and wake up not as sore as you expected you'd be!
'night.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Doing great, thank you! It rained today, so I took a total day off, caught up on some reading and put some Playa outfits into a tote box for next year. Not that I wore many of them this year, and may not next year. But I have this marching band uniform jacket that I stitched EL wire onto before the burn -- then never wore because it was so pleasantly mild in the evenings. I'm still planning to stitch EL wire onto the back of it also, though. So it was that kind of day -- no bicycles were harmed by these indoor endeavors.Martiansky wrote:Howdy, Elliot!

We had a bit of rain the last couple of days too.
Today was sunny and cool. Very nice day.
The neighbors and I went geocaching in the tunnel behind our houses. Even with the rain we've had the creek was low enough to walk in the tunnel.
Im glad that no bikes were harmed in todays costume packaging!

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Morning everyone....
Marty, I wake up super-early too, even if I stay up late. Some mornings there is no going back to sleep. I just get up, make coffee and waste time online.
We talk about a camp which would set up and break down more easily, but none of us is willing to compromise the comfort of our current set up. Larry and Genius did rig a way to get the carports on and off the trailer without unloading the entire thing, which helps. But still, set up is a full day and the finishing touches/HFWA are another. Break down can take just as long. Sigh. Week in the desert, my ass. So it is simplicity vs. comfort. And I want Larry to make a handwashing station for me, so one more thing. Sigh.
So would the NEB be a quilt, or a bunch of fleecy throws/polar fleece panels sewn together? I can sew, but I can't quilt worth a damn. And where would it reside on the playa? BDCWB?

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Good morning everyone, well afternoon actually. got a question for those of you who have sleep issues, you see I have always been supremely blessed in that I sleep wheen i want to however since getting back over here i haven't been.
what happens is i go climb under the sheets about 12, wake up at 1.30, then 2.30 then 3 wide awake. so i get up for an hour or so, maybe a bit more then try and get back to sleep, which eludes me for many long hours. in fact for the last week i have seen the sun come up everyday before finally dozing off only to wake up gone 12 midday (1.30 today)
Now if i was a teenager and not planning to get a damn job or do stuff during the day this would be perfectly normal, I am however a few years past my teens so could do with a slightly more socially acceptable sleep pattern you know like my pre-burn habit of waking up at 6-7 without an alarm clock. even better would be to do this before i get a job and start turning into a zombie.

Ugh, sleeplessness. Mine is more related to hormones, so I'm quite sure you don't have exactly the same problem... but I do know what helps.
In no particular order:
In no particular order:
- No caffeine after noon
Alcohol intake in moderation
Get checked for sleep apnea
Reduce light sources and noise in your bedroom
Set a week night bedtime and stick to it
Have a bedtime ritual, even if it is just brushing your teeth and relaxing
Check the temps in your bedroom. Too hot? Too cold?
Clean sheets. Set your own standard of clean, but really, clean sheets
Cut out computer/TV time right before bed. The light does crap to your brain

i will try your advice see what happens, maybe do one at a time, so i know which one works - if i do them all i will never know which was good advice.AntiM wrote:Ugh, sleeplessness. see the caffeine post above
- No caffeine after noon HAHAHAHA, thats going to be virtually impossible!
Alcohol intake in moderation might be part of the problem, i have reduced my intake a fair bit
Get checked for sleep apnea nope that not a problem, and i wouldn't use the damn breather anyway
Reduce light sources and noise in your bedroom yea, that might help at least at 6am
Set a week night bedtime and stick to it what like when i was 8?
Have a bedtime ritual, even if it is just brushing your teeth and relaxing I do that in a way and always have, its actually my only piece of advice to people who have trouble sleeping
Check the temps in your bedroom. Too hot? Too cold? nope its good, i have my sheet and furry blanket and duvet for when it gets cold
Clean sheets. Set your own standard of clean, but really, clean sheets this helps? ok sheet goes in the washer now
Cut out computer/TV time right before bed. The light does crap to your brain
