What Are You Gifting in 2015.... ?

I cut around in a circle. Not up and down. This way you end up with a continuous string and it 'rolls' into a round shape when you stretch it. (It stays in that skinny form too). If you cut from the neckline down towards the hem it stays pretty flat. Not like a piece of thin rope the way I like it. BUT...When you first start cutting you have to stretch it and test for strength. ½ inch or less and it may break.

You can also cut strips but leave them attached to a solid strip on one end. That way you can use the entire strip as fringe. Yes I am a T-shirt dork.

i'm gonna do postcards WITH STAMPS. i love love love sending mail to defaultia with the BRC postmark. i want to share that joy with others. i always have a sharpie with me, too, so if anyone wants to fill it out and hand it right back to me i will totally take it to the post-office for them.

i'm gonna become a Mobile Cooling Unit on my afternoon booze cruise walks: misting bottle, large umbrella, instant cool packs. these are all things i take with me anyway but i wanna make it official and make myself a sign and advertise my service. lots of bedraggled motherfuckers that time of day who could use a cool break.

and... i do hereby declare my intent to bring enough cheap vodka and bloody mary mix to share with my group. not in an Official Neighborhood Bloody Mary Supplier capacity but, like, if anyone's in earshot when i make my breakfast, i'll make them a drink, too.

I'm making necklaces made out of petrified wood chips that I found near the playa. Going to make @ 100 of them.

This year I'm focusing on gifting a few really high quality gifts that I know people will treasure for a long time. I bought four white marching band hats at a thrift store last summer (I took last year off from the big burn and put all my energy into our regional). I'm currently ordering lights to add to them and sequined appliques. I think the total cost of supplies should come in around $25 each. I'm going to keep one for myself, gift one to a friend at the regional in June, and keep the other two to gift to someone on the playa.
Last year I was gifted a vintage cape from a friend at the regional. She brought it out there because she knew someone would love it and waited for the right person to come along. It was the best burner gift I've ever received and I wear it all the time.
I'm still toying with the idea of getting patches made of a drawing I did to gift on the playa, but I'll likely just stick with a few bigger items.

I'll post pictures once the hats are done.

last year I made playa mud balls from the rainstorm. they dried out. by Friday/Saturday was gifting mudballs (Ideal for the traveler!!! take'm home, grind them up, instant playa dust!!, TSA inspection approved!!!) I hope.

In 2010 I ran across an official looking post box in deep playa replete with stationary, envelopes and pen. The instruction was to write a letter to your future self (they were to be posted in 2013, IIRC)

It was an awesome idea if as I suspect most people would do it and forget it. Unfortunately I remember all too well (well, this anyway, I still haven't totally gotten the whole name thing right with my kids (26 and 22)) and not everyday, but every now and then, I approach my mailbox and wonder if it will be in today's mail.

It was a rough few years, and caught at a particularly vulnerable time I was feeling disappointed in myself and overindulging in everything a bit too much. I simply wrote "Get your shit together and grow up!"


If it ever does arrive I may have to think about considering the suggestion before dismissing it outright.

I'm going to make more of these again this year. They have been wildly popular in the past years although I don't really know why. They're not particularly artful and I have seen lots of other gifts that deserve way more attention. They are what they are and I will be doubling my order again this year so I should have around 100 of them. Most will be filled with Playa dust but some of them will be filled with ash from the man burn so they wont be ready till Sunday.

I'm going to gift Free Rolls.
That is, I'm going to put a one of those workout foam rollers and a beach towel in my bike basket, and offer to let people roll out their sore necks and backs on the playa. I've been bringing the foam roller every year, after riding in a cramped car for 20 hours and sleeping on a crummy cot, it feels amazing to roll out the back once or twice a day. Sharing the love this year by taking the rolls to go.

I'm a virgin and I'd love some feedback of what I was thinking of gifting.

I was thinking of dressing up as a cigarette girl, and walking around with a pizza box full of items for safe sex kits (e.g. latex gloves, condoms, female condoms, lube, baby wipes, and a ziplock bag for the ensuing MOOP).

Would that be good? Or would it be pointless because playspaces already provide those type of things?

Or maybe fill the box up with useful items you might have forgotten (e.g. sanitary pads, chapstick, sunscreen, good masks)? What would you suggest would be good for the box?

Not one of the more memorable gifts, but every year I bring about triple the rebar I need and give most of it away. People tend to underestimate how much they need.

I was thinking of making a bunch of emrgency tins (say altoid size) Emergency smokr kit - with a few cigs a lighter and the tin as an ash tray, Emergency sex kit, 2 condoms, lube and a ziplock bag, Emergency booze pack A miniture bottle of booze or 2 General emergency kit tp, wet wipes lip balm Emergency pirate kit, a small eye patch, rum and a skull and srossbones bandana
any other suggestions welcome. i have found a source of brightly painted tins jsut not inspiration as for what to put in them.

For those times when your blood sugar is crashing and your mood is even worse, you just need some calories to make it back to camp. Emergency stress kit: ear plugs, eyemask, chamomile tea, mulitvitamin and a Tylenol PM. Emergency party kit: 5 hour energy, LED finger lights, and an Aleve. I may borrow this idea for myself, it's fun!

Sextant Camp gifted about 110 Titanium pendants at Burnal Equinox Saturday night.

We had people form small groups and pop their rough pendant out of the plate, then they got ground, polished, flame painted and finally a necklace strap.

A few adventurous Burners opted to polish their own. We naturally put them to work, of course!

Did any of you folks attend and/or get one?

The queuing in groups is a wonderful solution to line jumpers. (I was in line at the height of busy time.) Boy was it cold and I lost my cape to someone that was freezing. Oh well. My titanium man is gorgeous. Thanks for doing this event. There were a ton of virgins getting their first taste of gifting. Well done.

I actually had 2 people push through the line and grab bare pendants from the overflow tray and start to slink away.

I had them return them and explained the process and put them in a pulse group.

By the end of it they had rainbow pendant necklaces and were giving me hugs and smiling and being nice. It worked out!
