quiet in here, I guess most are still decompressing.
Dang, the smoke here from the nearby (11miles ish) is horrid. at times during the day it's over 400. Unhealthy for sensitive groups starts around 100... ugh. Visibility drops below a mile, and even down to about 1/2.
We'r getting cooler temps, and clouds off and on, so I'd guess that's helping in the fire fight. Not a lot of wind, at least yet...

Good morning, ygmir. It’s under 200 for a bit this morning, so I opened a window for some air exchange. It was so dark at three yesterday. I couldn’t see the high rises a few blocks away. I have a filter big enough for a room, and changed filters this summer.
Lower temperatures are a nice trend.

yeah, I'm seeing air quality forecasts for your area as bad... ugh. and, two new fires started between that fire and me. Luckily, it looks like they've been stopped at a few dozen acres. The big fire blew up today due to winds. Threatening some small towns in the area.Elorrum wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 10:10 am![]()

Our air here today was mostly under 50, but started the morning at 300.

hi Lucky.
yeah, some area schools here are cancelled, too. you guys are really in the down wind stream for the smoke.
we are in it in the mornings, then the winds switch and blow towards you.
The fire really "blew up" yesterday, ~58K acres now. Life and property are the priority right now, so control is secondary it seems. But they are making progress.
It's sort of frustrating to hear all the "armchair quarterbacks" complaining about what they (firefighters) do, and how they do it. They are doing their best, and are human.
You must be extra suffering, a week of heat and dust, followed by horrid smoke...ugh, I hope you all are ok. At least the temperatures are down...

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
Extra suffering? Nah, I left the burn Saturday morning at 8:30, I was home by 11am.
It was to much for me this year. I came in early Thursday, didn’t bring a uhaul so my set up was not as lush
this year. When I made up my mind on Friday late afternoon to go home Saturday I was so dang happy. I went around camp/village letting everyone know, saying my goodbyes. Some people were actually a lil jealous (TITWI
)
I had a rash/hives that developed on both arms Friday pre event, so seeking shade a lot and trying to keep the arms covered was concerning. It was either leave Saturday morning or wait til Tuesday because I won’t do Sun/Mon exodus.
I had a good mello burn but I was just ready to be home
p.s. it’s always kind of a dick swing (imho) about how long people stay out there. I guess I’m over swinging my dick
.

my last year, I was there about 18 days. Yeah, by the end I was ready to be home.
if it's not fun, and fun enough to be ok with the discomforts, well, is it worth it? Of course, getting to see people you want to see, and don't get to see the rest of the year is fun, but then again, the money spent on TTITD, might pay for a trip to see them anyway? I dunno, it's so subjective.

Coffee and weed
It’s what I need
I don’t do speed
Just coffee and weed
Well I’ll still have a drink once in a while. I don’t think I had more than 10 beers and just a couple of drinks the whole time I was at TTITD this year. Microdose the fungi some but mainly

Hey MGB. No burn for me this year. I was not sad to miss the weather extremes. I hope you enjoyed it for the most part.

Hi Figjam! how's things in the southland?
dry as heck here, we got a nice rain a while back, but that effect is long gone. We're back into the upper 80's and 90's again. Seems many of our biggest fires are this time of year, people relax because days are shorter and nights are cooler, but, usually more wind and it's just as dry. Relative humidity is a little higher, so they think activities that are not ok in August, are ok now.....

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
Hey there yg, always good to see ya! Thanks for the cartoon.
How is the wildfire situation out there? I keep reading about dry conditions and low water levels at the major reservoirs in the southwest. Apparently the Mississippi River is running at a low level as well. Here locally, we've been fortunate to have a decent amount of rain this summer, though it does seem like the water spigot in the sky got shut off about a month ago. Fall colors are in the midst of changing as we speak.
How's the Hof? Getting it buttoned up for winter? I've been taking care of regular and added outdoor chores here as the season changes. Still making art when I can, and dreaming about returning to BRC, though it sounds like this year was a tough one for a lot of people, even for those I consider to be quite robust.
In other news, our wacky astronomer friends have predicted another total lunar eclipse coming up before long. If I understand correctly, the moon will be near the horizon here when it happens, but you'll have a better vantage point out west. Hoping for clear skies.

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
HI there BVB!
yeah, it's very very dry here. Our only relief is that temps are cooler, so relative humidity is high which, so far, seems to be slowing fire starts and spreading enough to allow the fire departments to respond and get a quick handle on them....so far, so good.
Hoping for one more Hof campout maybe next week, then shut it down for winter, if we get a winter....Shutting down pretty much just consists of opening the 4" drain at the bottom of the concrete spring tank, so the water can flow through and flush out all winter, and not freeze. Not so sure 1500 gallons of water in a buried concrete tank would freeze, but I think the fittings and outlets would be vulnerable.
I'm glad you all are having a good year, rain wise. People don't realize how critical the sky water is, until there is not enough. I bet your colors there are fabulous in fall!!!
I'd love a lunar eclipse near the horizon. I have about 100 miles to the horizon in the west from my place here, and nearly sea level (I'm at 2800' elevation, but look across the central valley and over the coast range), and when anything is near it's really large.

A birthday gift package is on it's way to you. You should be sufficiently swagged up. Yes, there are birthday cookies for you as well.
