Hi -
Wondering if anyone knows about a good place to leave my car in Gerlach or if this is a good idea at all? I have a fairly new car, want to drive it but probably not good for driving in rugged playa conditions.

The road from Gerlach to Burning Man is fine - a little bumpy, but I've been on worse city streets. The only concern is the dust, and it cleans off the outside of the car easily and if you are reasonably careful you can keep the inside pretty clean also, and a good vacuuming will clean it out.
Parking in Gerlach would imply figuring out some way to get you and your gear into Burning Man, which seems like a lot more work than cleaning the dust out of your car when you get home.

There was another thread with this query, and Someone With Authority said parking in Gerlach is not allowed -- it's a small town, and Burners overrun it as it is. Turning it into a parking lot would _really_ aggravate the residents.
There are no rugged playa conditions. Nothing in Gerlach is going to be better than the playa in terms of weather, dust, rain, whatever.
Suggestions: use gaffer tape to tape aluminum foil inside all the windows. Put a cover of some kind over the outside air intake (below the windshield). (All this is after you park at your site, of course. :->)
