Why indeed, there is an app for that.
It’s called GoFundMe and KickStarter ...
What you lament is cooperative society.
What we have is competitive society.
Sadly, in the 21st century, it appears only crisis brings out some of the values from the past.
TTITD has some aspects of a cooperative society, but it is slowly eroding over time, since ticket scarcity kicked in.
Might be fun to reintroduce that into the Playa meat soup.
shut up, commie
Ya know, I done lived under communist rule for ~ dozen years, mid 70s-80s ...
... and I gotta tell ya, compared to the current quagmire that is the U S of A ...
... wasn’t all that bad ...
... one might even say it was better at a big-picture level ...
interesting take.
With all the faults of the U.S., I still see it orders of magnitude better than any socialist/communist nation in the "big picture". Communism (since you refer to living under it), Has never worked out, I think on many, many levels. Sure, as with all things, there are "good parts". But, just look at it's history (on any large scale), and see how it falls apart in fairly rapid order. Having several close friends, who lived decades within the former USSR, (and escaped at great personal peril) the stories of adult living, are pretty bleak. Parts of it, were, the lack of enthusiasm and hope for success. That, seemed reserved only for "party leaders". This, of course, is human nature, IMHO. And no, I don't think the "new communists", would "do it right". They are certainly no more intelligent, that the founders of communism. Arguably, not nearly so. Back then "the people" got on the bandwagon, with promises of "free stuff" and "all pigs are equal"....But, human nature being what it is, it devolved quickly to totalitarian rule, restrictive societal laws, and building a fence to "keep people in"... The last, being the real tell...
(wow, sorry/not sorry for babbling).
I'd take, any time, the mess we've had here for the last 50 years, ebbing and flowing, pendulum swinging, society going from homogeneous to "oil and water".......with still the possibility to benefit directly from hard work and or luck, that the gray monotone of "all pigs are equal" type of society (By APAE, I mean in work and potential to succeed, I feel as far as race, gender, etc, we should all be seen the same, and judged strictly on ability and will) produces. Examples of which in endless stories of people who lived adult, long term lives within..
