2020 Playa Conditions?

Post by earlyrelease » Sat May 23, 2020 3:42 pm

Hi all,

Has anyone been out Black Rock way recently, and knows if the playa has dried out yet?

I'm driving by/through in a couple of weeks and would like to stop off and see Fly, maybe a spring and think about what won't be this year. I promise to stay at least a mile away from anyone else - with a mask on. No comment on other clothing.

Reports are that it rained a bit on Thursday, but should be fine today. Avoid 3 Mile entrance, always. The folks in Gerlach ask that you drive through and not stop in their little town.

Last i heard Fly is closed with gates locked. I suppose you could climb over but you would still be a good distance from the spring.

Hello earlyrelease

Hahaha! The black rock playa is extremely wet and dry!

If you want real, make friends with Friends of Black Rock High Rock. I've heard a rumor they are not hard to contact. They are on the ground knowledge.

You will need permission for Fly, from private land owners.

Also do not get your vehicle stuck. Communication, rescue, and deep towing is sparse.

I would also say patronize little Gerlach safely.
