Backfire is seeking fresh new faces and perspectives!

Hello everyone!

Backfire is a camp of majority Deaf-people, and ASL signers.

We welcome non-signers with only a simple request (on top of other typical camp expectations), that you come with a willingness to be present and learn some signs while you’re with us!

Backfire has been out on the playa three times and we’re looking forward to our fourth burn. We have ranged between 20-30 people in our past burns.

We are a close knit group of mostly deaf burners -many of us have multiple burns under our belt. We also have a number of hearing allies. We work hard to maintain diversity among our members. Many of our members are women, queer and/or POC.

We are looking to inject a few new faces and fresh perspectives in our camp this year.

Don’t know American Sign Language? That’s OK. You’ll learn something!

We have a full set of infrastructure including -
- Community shade structures (48’ x 40’)
- 500 gallons of fresh water
- Kitchen with water and cooking setup
- Community camp meals Monday/Wednesday/Friday evening. All meals will be vegetarian.

We put on interactivity during the week -
Vietnamese Coffee and ASL social - most mornings during the week
Wednesday Whiskey & Waffles - wednesday evening

In terms of what we expect from you - we expect our campers to contribute towards setup if possible and we expect campers to contribute to camp chores, interactivity and camp strike on Sunday with no exceptions. Everyone is expected to contribute and many hands make for easy work and everyone’s happy!

We are a pretty chill camp. Aside from expectations for camp duties, participating in a reasonable number of camp interactivity, and finally camp strike - we strongly believe in you enjoying your burn and we won’t get in your way!

Our camp dues this year are $350. This is separate from any tickets or costs you may incur on your own.

We also have a few tickets that can go to the right people. The cost of tickets will be face value, taxes, fees and the camp dues will all be payable at the same time. ($905)

Still searching tickect and Camp. 1st time burn. Exp. Volunteer lead & instructor & baker/fryer. I've done a lot of odd jobs laboring and love to paint. Dedicated, reliable, effective worker & epic player! Any info is much appreciated. Any placement or ticket knowledge needed!
2 coming to home to play, reset, recharge & heal. I have 3 ASL family members. Lost my son 10 years ago 8-28. Must be present this year. Taking his photo and a letter to temple. And gonna make a call!
