the monks on the playa

Post by Millicent » Sat Sep 17, 2005 2:21 pm

Did anyone visit the monks and write out a wish on a wooden slat? Who were those guys, anyway? I want to thank them and find out more about them....

I Met some Monks near the Temple.

They were preparing to burn items a hundred feet out from the temple in a small area. The one I spoke to did not speak much english. I speak less Japanese. He told me my bike was about to be immolated where I'd parked it. I moved it. We bowed and I went back to the temple. I believe they were Shinto priests. Just another remarkable meeting.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.
