Process for a first-time camp to get placed?

Post by katetheswan » Wed Dec 14, 2022 4:35 pm

We're Burners with 2 to 7 years of building / running / striking theme camps who want to break off and start our own camp. Has anyone else done this and if so, what is the process for getting placed?
Secondly, are we able to get Work Access Passes?

E-mail the Placement team -- [email protected] -- and ask to sign up for the Placement Newsletter.
[There's a way you can do it yourself, but I'm not that computer-savvy.]

Also, briefly state what you want to do.
Please keep it short and to the point -- they are mostly volunteers and often alarmingly busy.

Do it now. The process starts in January.

Good luck, and In Dust We Trust.

If your camp is accepted and placed then you should have access to WAP’s. If your camp is in good standing after 2023 then you should be able to be granted some Stewards tickets for 2024.

When I decided to start a placed camp I planned as if I was going to do it regardless of DST. Fill out everything and get it in on time. Use that past experience. I assumed placement would connect my camp intent with the past LNT, etc history of the camp I had been in, riding on their camp in good standing. That first placed year, before DS allocation, I had bought myself one of the expensive tickets to make sure my camp happened, unsure. Then, bless the dust and playa, with me following the process, the camp was given the the means to bring it.

Just FYI, there is now a smallish allocations of stewards tickets reserved for first-time theme camps. Said camps are advised not to count on being able to get them, though.
