Hi, I'm Bad With Names

Post by tbrem » Sat Feb 18, 2023 3:01 am

It's been a while and I probably have an old account floating around that I can't remember.

Been going on and off since 2007. The last three times I brought kiddo (at ages 7,9 and 12). This year, it looks like the folks we used to camp with and provided most of the infrastructure might not be coming. Flying in from Germany, having some friends who lug in stuff was awesome.

So this year we might do things differently. I have a few plans, one of our mates is coming in, I have some camp contacts. Just need to make sure kiddo has an ace time. Would love to come in early this year, so kiddo can experience the city being built, and help doing it.

I figured it'd be worth lurking around here a bit, as well.

Hi, Bad With Names, I’m Papa Bear!

(Yes, you should have seen that coming.)

I would suggest looking into Kidsville, if you haven’t already - www.kidsville.org, though most of the organization is now on the Facebook group it mentions.

It won’t provide infrastructure, and it isn’t a babysitting service, but there are under-18s of all kinds there, so there are almost sure to be some there your kid’s age. That goes a long way for most teens.

Getting in early may be harder. Kidsville doesn’t usually hand out WAPs to first time members, though they are under a new mayor this year, so who knows?

Aside from the camps and art projects, I know there are some volunteer departments that need people there early (GPE, for example), but I don’t know if they accept minors for those roles.

Oh, I did. ;)

Thanks for the welcome and the hints.

I have filled out the volunteer questionaire, indicating pre-event and selecting things I believe a 13-year old can join. Since I want to volunteer again anyway, why not try it. (Didn't the last three times, because kiddo was too young and I didn't want for anyone to have to babysit ;) )

Kidsville is an awesome place, but kiddo is better with adults for some reason, especially when it comes to strangers. But yeah, it's on the radar.

What we'd also love to help with is setting up art, especially with the theme this year. I might just see the perfect post.

And I just generally want to keep an eye open for options.

Welcome back!

There are several avenues to art projects. The BMorg has announced the art honorariums who you can contact. Your BM Regional and neighboring regionals may know art projects. There are art support groups like https://www.renewablesforartiststeam.org/home.

You could also find the social media of the Artery and art groups. Your best source are the people you camped with in the past.

The temple often needs physical labor offsite.

Just like tickets, the demand for WAPS far exceeds the supply, but the demand for people staying a day or after for breakdown and cleanup far exceeds the supply!

The US is paranoid about liability which may not be the case in Germany, so set your expectations accordingly.
