National BLM Conservation Change - public input until June 20

Post by some seeing eye » Tue Jun 06, 2023 9:12 am

Under historic regulations, the BLM seeks maximum economic exploitation of its public lands. That includes grazing and mining.

They are seeking comment on changing the rules to include environmental conservation as a goal.

Public comment is open until June 20.

BLM proposes seismic shift in lands management

The Bureau of Land Management unveiled a sweeping draft rule Thursday that would represent a fundamental shift in how the agency manages millions of acres of public lands that are under increasing threat from climate change, drought and wildfires.

The proposed rule would apply land-health standards to all of the 245 million acres that BLM manages, instead of limiting them to federal livestock grazing allotments. The rule would also designate conservation as a formal use of public lands, on par with energy development, grazing and recreation.

I need to read through this. I sense a foreboding of a kind of doublespeak. Committed to multiple uses of the public land, conservation is to be considered one of the uses? Enjoy your lunch ketchup.

Roll on through, Tumbleweed.
