Help, holes in kodiak tent

Post by A Jester » Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:32 am

We haven't used our kodiak in years, when we opened it up it turns out we put it away wet. I know, bad monkey. It's the only time I've ever put a tent away wet in my life, I blame solar flares.

Anyhow, we sprayed the mold down with vinegar and mild soap, scrubbed a bit, then used a pressure washer to get it all off. My first time using a pressure washer on a tent. You can guess what happened, holes.

There's about 8 or so places where I got too close to the tent and blew a hole through it. I can get a patch kit and fix those, but I'm worried about having gotten almost too close a bunch of other times, and weakened or damaged the canvas without actually making a hole.

Anyone a canvas expert? Anyone about as dumb as me and did the same thing? We're not flush with cash at the moment so I'm not excited about buying another tent. I also don't want to end up with no shelter and a huge moop piece after the first strong wind.

Help me eplaya-ken-obi. You're my only hope.

I was folding a pair of jeans the other day and noticed how the light was coming through some intact but pretty worn thin places. I wonder if a kodiak tent canvas would show a lighter spot where it was thinned, if you had a bright light to shine on one side, and maybe someone on the other side to notice.

Roll on through, Tumbleweed.
