I Made a Great Greywater Evaporator 30~60 gals per day

Thought I’d share this since it worked so very well.

Pond liner mini pond/holding tank. 1 foot deep.

Very small fountain pump. Like 5 watts or so. Dribbling onto…

Two layers of mosquito net separated by 2 inches of space to break apart the pumped water stream into little droplets.

A few household fans blowing on the droplets. About 150 watts, maybe less.

Hot tub chlorine to keep it safe.

Leaf blower to dry off the dregs on the last day.

Add more pumps and fans for more people.

Cheap, no clogging because no need for fine filters, doubles as huge storage tank, easy, compact, works great.

Wanna know what works better, is more foolproof and simpler?
Big plastic barrels. Just dump it in, empty them on your way home at an RV dump station.
Evap ponds get all sorts of things dumped in them by random a-holes, they collect dirt and dust, they’re not always empty when you’re packing up, and are generally a lot more hassle.

You carried all that water in, there’s no reason you can’t carry it out.

Too many times I suggested my camps members buy the clear plastic, screw on top, one gallon waters. When empty, fill with grey water and haul them outta BlackRockCity. The slightly cheaper frosty plastic gallons, do not have a screw top. And skip the 2.5 gallon containers which one needs to knife to work correctly.

Out of maybe 50 camp members I suggested to over the years, ONE couple hauled grey water out of the playa. I even warned that those frosty plastic gallons, if left in the sun, will make some very bad tasting water. Yet, they shop at WalMart and see that since they need to haul 30 gallons of water, just get the cheap ones. (yeah, save money on water, yet buy a $800 canvas tent, genny, swamp cooler, electric bike...etc.)

Kinda funny that it took me more than a decade of burns to stop making suggestions...but I guess I'm still trying i.e., posting in this dying eplaya format.

And, thanks Capt. for still sharing your years of experience with practical suggestions. (my fave is the Rainbow vac.)

Man so many of the years I’ve been part of organizing theme camps there’s been some intelligent tinkerer with a bold new plan to evaporate water instead of hauling it away and dealing with it off playa. To some measure of success or another, I have seen some significantly reduce the amount of gray water we have to haul away. I’ve seen some fail magnificently. And just about all of them required the (sometimes considerable) attention of one our skilled maker/doer people.

The back up plan that saved our ass last year was a bunch of 55 gal barrels we moved around the box truck with a hand truck. Hauled out our gray water. Super simple. It’s really not that much work in the grand scheme of burning at working man.

Great point. Not every year is great for an evap system to work properly. Rare, yes. But it does happen and if you don't have a plan "B" then what? Dump the gray water and hope no one notices? Planning to haul it out is the safest plan.

That's why I always take an extra Zorb. They can handle over 100 gallons (prove me wrong).
