powering small sound systems

Post by Rusty Neadle » Sun May 21, 2006 1:13 pm

so I'm shipping a small sound system out from New York and i've hired an rv. Can anyone tell me what rv generators are like? reliable? powerful enough? quiet/noisy? I need to run 2kw max. if the rv solution isn't cutting it, what's the best fix? hiring one from Reno? any suggestions of places to hire from?

Rusty, Been taking my RV for 8 years now. Your rented RV will have a 4k-5k gennie. But they charge a per hour use rate. Last time I saw a rate chart is was something like $3 per hour.. I may be way off, not sure. The other thing to know is that the RV gennies use about .8 gal/hr.
They are not quiet nor loud. I bring a Honda eu2000i. Very easy on the ears. At min/power get 13 hours on 1.5 gal of gas.. That Honda will run you abou $900-1000.00 The Honda will NOT run your RV A/C . Please don't bring a cheap loud jobsite gennie.. The people around you will like you more. Read this for more info on playing with your sound system...

2KW for sound?

Post by Token » Tue May 23, 2006 11:24 am

If you are using even a quarter of the 2KW of power for a sound system, you are using too much. Rememer there is a 300W limit on sound systems outside of the large scale sound art zones.
