Emperor and/or Empress of the Playa: we exist to serve
So the camp gets together and builds a pair of thrones, then goes out into BRC in search of a couple in need of pampering. They become royalty for the duration and are treated as such, carried in litters and fed cool grapes, etc. What do you think?

I like it! Make the selection process as random as possible. Wander the playa saying you're looking for the king and queen who have wandered off. Pick a man and woman at random (whether they're actually a couple or not) and try to convince them to be carried off and pampered.

Of course, you'll need to convince them that they won't be thrown into the volcano at the end of the week.

For the duration of what? Some couples will dig a few hours, others maybe not, but I'm unclear on what kind of committment you want from them.

True story: My new wife and I had cloaks that made us look like royalty. Mine was a rich crimson, hers a regal purple. One night we sat down in two chairs next to each other and raised on a stage. Totally random people would come up to us and seek assurances, ask advice, give us gifts or whatever. One lady spent an hour taking ewach and every item out of her pack and asking us if we thought she needed it on the playa. I have to admit that we were pretty stern when she pulled out her grandmother's heirloom wedding ring and expressed hope that it never be lost.

It sounds like fun. Why a couple? What about same sex couples? What about surly, poorly socialized despots?

I like it... you could wander around with the current king and queen until you see someone else you'd like to carry off. You could then sit your thrones down and yell, "Nooo... THERE'S the king and queen!!!"

You know, a king and queen don't have to be opposite sexes.

It could last for a day, then dump them off in some random spot in BRC, as they wonder, "what the hell hit me??"

Sounds interesting. Their choice of entertainment can be of their bidding: village idiot(s), flogging, singing, poetry reading, etc.
