Are bikes or trikes w/ small electric assist motors allowed?

Post by Zipper » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:46 pm

:D
I'm getting on in years now and do not have the energy to fight the desert winds when they come up. I would like to bring a bike that has a battery powered assist. The "motor" is very small, with some models looking a like a slightly enlarged hub. They are silent for all practical purposes . Certainly not like a Go Ped. They are almost indistinguishable from an ordinary bike.

I would decorate the bike too.

Since this particular situation does not seem to be listed, I was hoping that someone might have some insight or knowledge.

Thanks!

If it looks like a bicycle and doesn't make motor sounds or smells, you're probably fine. For absolute clarification on this issue, please contact the BRC DMV. There should be a link in Preparation or something. If you still can't figure it out, PM me.

Well, I called BM and left a message, and emailed DMV with the question. No response from either, so must not be important enough to answer.

I suppose policing bicycles or trikes w these little motors you can barely hear, let alone see, is not something they want to do. Or maybe they would just as soon ignore it as it may not be a problem anyway and leave it as one of those "discretionary policing" activities.

Hide the motor with post-modern art, and no one will notice.

And then bolt on a faux motor and when they question it, take it off and tell them to keep it.
