Well, okay they're not plastic. They're potato starch and vegetable oil; they claim to last as long as regular plastic forks and spoons but to fully rot in your landfill back into their natural potatoey state.
Don't leave'em on the playa, however, as it's too dry. And don't drop'em in the potties, as it's too icky.

I've had some simelier ones (not designed to be reusable) and they don't rot in a home compost pile that's not kept hot.
