Andy Warhol

Post by Magikal » Sun Aug 20, 2006 6:24 pm

The local art museum here in San Diego has an exhibition of some of Andy Warhols' work, and I went down to see it, since he is quite the cultural icon and all that. Quite frankly, while it was interesting, I fail to see why people were all so ga-ga over him. Yeah, so he did negatives and put extra colors and lines on them: so what? I guess I just don't "get it". He hit that "this really matters" thing with the art crowd, and they turned him into a superstar.

But something I had never known about him was that apparently, he got shot by this radical feminist chick. She was the sole member of "SCUM", which was the "Society for Cutting Up Men". I did a Google on this, and came up with a good, clear synopsis of this. But at the end, the author of the piece says how this woman, who had shot the unarmed Warhol for no apparent reason, was "her hero!" (not, of course, her "heroin" ).

At first, I was kind of blown away, until I read the URL of the link, which had the whole ruptured English thing of "Wymynkind" or whatever. You can read the whole thing here:

So, it seems to me these chicks would fit in well with the neo-Nazi crowd. They're just as unrelentingly filled with hate, and no reason can penetrate. And I'm sure some of the same thing as that pathetic loser who shot John Lennon is a factor. Much as I don't agree with much of Lennon's political philosophy, I hate even more what the "fecal material" guy said who shot him: "I was the biggest nobody in the world, until I shot the biggest somebody in the world." If that isn't the lamest reason to shoot someone...
"All the great villainies of history have been perpetrated by sober men, and chiefly by teetotalers"
