Burning Man Tarot Deck
Burning Man Tarot Deck
I hear a rumor that years ago, someone created and gifted BM tarot decks... i'd love any information about it -- a way to contact the creator, images of the deck, and (i'm not holding my breath LOL) if anyone has one they are willing to part with, i'd be VERY interested.
i'm learning/collecting tarot, and considering making my own deck. i think it may be a burning man deck, or just use BM themes for the fire/wands suit.... i am not looking to copy anyone else's work, just would love to see it because i'm curious!
(also, if i make a deck solely based on BM, i may look for photographers who are willing to share their photos for this project, it would be for my own personal use and POSSIBLY for gifting to other burners, no sales. so if anyone wants to volunteer their photos let me know ;o) i have some photos from 05 but i only used disposable cameras and need a wider selection of pics)
thanks!!

There were a limited number of decks. All of them were passed out by Danger Ranger (aka Michael Michael).
I actually had my deck scanned into my web site but removed it to free up some needed space. There was also a web site which took each card and explored - somewhat esoterically - what each card stood for. The iconography was very playa centric BTW.

It's not exactly a "deck" but Opera Camp came up with a divination system for our Opera in 2000, "Thar-Taurs of Atlan." It was a series of tetrahedrons with "card faces" on the facets, together with an octagon; when stacked, they formed a three-sided pyramid.
You did the reading by rolling the octagon first, which tells you which of the four suits to roll and also indicated whether action or thought was called for. The suits were Firesnakes (Fire), Moonbulls (Water), Monkeys (Earth) and Aliens (Air). The card faces had sigils that indicated whether it was a "pure" reading or an "unbalanced" reading; a reading could be unbalanced to Fire, or unbalanced to Water.
The Fool card was under the Aliens suit, and it was called "tlan," meaning "transparency." If you get the "A" sigil when you roll the octagon, you go to the Alien suit; if you got "tlan" when you roll that, then it means you go back to the Octagon for your answer. If you got the sigil "Tis" you had what we called the "Golden Child" reading, and it's the best. It means "the Gods smile upon your endeavour, fortune favoured." If you get the message, the deck spelled out "Atlantis" (which we pronounced "AH-Tlahn-Teese" as opposed to "at-LAN-tis"
I think they might still have the info up on the Opera website under Thar-Taurs of Atlan.

We did them in 2000, for The Body.
I'll post on the Opera List and see if I can get the URL of the page they were all on; it was a "hidden" page so people couldn't just download and print them out, but I'm pretty sure the creators have recouped the cost of printing them by now.

Longtime burner Stevee Postman created "The Cosmic Tribe Tarot" from images he did with other burners. I carry it in my store... the cups cards are my favorites.

It might have been me!
My first dessert burn was in 2000,my husband and I did huge prep for monthes before the burn . I needed to contribute art so I planned on working a Tarot deck. It only seemed natural. Its turned into a 7 year project. It was the year of the body. I hope to finish it this year ans have desided not to use just my photos..butdo collage like altars and phot those from collected imagery. Wanna help?
