Has anyone received a Personal Message from?
Have you received a Personal Message at anytime that was phsyically Threatening, insulting or disturbing to you?
Cowboyangel, Badger and even Joel or anyone else?
If so, can you post it here or whatever you may have remembered?
This is not a joke?

There's been some spam PMs floating around. If you get one you're concerned about, copy it, including sender name and post it down in either case studies or death to spammers. If it is too personal, copy it, send it to emily, or send it to me, and I can hand it up to Em.
I've acquired a few nasty porn ones in the last week. Other folks have gotten some strange stuff, which may or may not be legit.

First: I'm wondering if anyone has received such mail from my account?
Because if you did, I would never do such a thing as send mail. As I have stated in the past, if i have anything to say, I say it so in the open and posted in a thread this way the whole BM community can be informed.
Second: I did get a greeting from an emily Jensen saying Hi with a link to a personal page that I didn't open. I hope that she wasn't a real person, because I thought she was a spammer so I jokenly replied, "Hi, I'm seventeen and I like older people!"
If you are real Emily, I'm sorry if I had been rude and I am glad to have you in our lovely, though at times paranoid, community- you know its that terrorist homeland security thing. Please reply back!

Hmm. I feel kind of left out, then, since I didn't recieve one!
I did, however, get one from kebesz. I ignored it, since I am pretty certain that is a spam-bot.

strange that you said that. I have a spyware program and found that it was turned off. I always had that automatically turn on when I boot up.MikeVDS wrote:Change your password and check your computer for keyloggers/spyware. You should be ok then.
I even had some PM deleted?
should I take two asprins and call you in the morning?
thanks for the advice

I usually recommend having one actively running and occasionally run
others.
AVG, Microsoft, Spybot and Ad-aware all have decent free scanners.
AVG makes a great free virus scanner. Trend micro has a free on-line scanner for occasional scans.
A program called "hijackthis" is great for deleting crap that automatically starts up.
Also keep yourself behind a router and don't set your computer to DMZ.
It will take a few hours to do all of those, but that's what I do every time a friends computer is crawling with junk. I also recommend using firefox browser instead of internet explorer.
Careful about anti-virus and anti-spyware because of lot of them are worse than the stuff they remove.

if thats the extent of it i'm glad, if its something more personal and frightening anyone can foreward it to antiM or Emily. but it sounds like the spambot problem and before anyone asks, yes, senior staff have been notified to this latest example of an escalating problem. i imagine many people are being effected, even ones who signed up to an account years ago and never used it are probably surprised to get an email.

You weren't supposed to let him off the hook. You should have told him I deleted it. But I guess since you're a mod ya gotta do the right thing. I should have begged you not to tell him. Maybe even try to bribe you.AntiM wrote:Ah, AZ, I think he was indeed joking.
