Barbershop Quartet singers?
Yeah -- ok, it's random -- but BM is all about harmony, right?
Camp Understanding will be running a radio station this year for the citizens of BRC, but most of that work will be done on the front end, so we're looking to put our musical chops to work.
Years and years ago, when the world was new, I was the member of SPEBQSA, the world's worst acronym meaning the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. I was 15 --- everyone else was 60. At a couple events, we'd go around randomly breaking into song -- and in this day and age, people that can hit notes and sound musical are a rarity that people find fun.
I'm looking for another tenor, a baritone and a bass in the Bay Area (I'm in SF) with good ears and a willingness to do a little work prior to the event. How many times we'd perform is open, and sobriety is optional.
It's corny, it's weird, and though I wouldn't be surprised if it had been done before, I've not heard of it.
Let me know...

If I was to stop using the subjunctive, would anyone notice?

Baritone / bass
Hey, sounds like a great idea! I live in SF and have a bit of quartet experience though it's been a while since I've sung with a group. I'm a low baritone/mid bass. What songs were you thinking of preparing?

Cool...
I figured we'd just do some simple stuff out of the SPEBQSA song book.
We just need another tenor and a bass -- know anyone else who might work?

Hi there,
I think you've recently heard from my Dad, who's been a barbershopper for 30 years back in Connecticut. I'm a baritone here in San Francisco and would love to join you for some musical stylings on the playa. I'm an experienced musician, but have very little barbershop experience except for what the old man has exposed me to. We gave it a shot at last year's BM, but would like to make a better effort this year with a bit more planning and rehearsal.
With Dad, that gives us two tenors. I'd be happy to hook up with you and even attend a few rehearsals with the Golden Gate Chorus to bone up on skills.
I don't check this board regularly, so email is a better way to reach me. [email protected]

sounds nice but unfortunately I'm rather mezzo soprano than Bariton or Tenor. ;-)
but with lots of choir experience...
hope too meet some people with musical ears, this will be my first BM - and coincidentally my first posting here as well!
Greetings from da pianoplaya!
..and sorry if my English is not so good

barbershop again in 2008?
Hi everybody! I'm also ex-SPEBSQSA (the name was actually a parody on FDR's many New Deal programs and their acronyms). I haven't sung barbershop in years but I think it'd work great on the Playa. It sounds like there was a group last year -- sorry I missed it!
I PMed Mr_Understanding and he says he's probably not going to do it this year. Anybody else interested? I'm near San Jose.
I used to be a lead, but I also can sing tenor and bari quite well. Can sing bass in a pinch (sang bass in my high school choir, but I've lost some low range since then).
