Australia now has a site for Burners
It certainly has taken longer than we would have liked, still, it's finally here. Much like an empty playa it has much content to be created.
If you've been and would like to offer up some photos, or stories please do.
If your coming to Australia and would like to meet other burners please feel free to post.
If the forum area ain't there then suggest it, we'll add it.

My apologies for no link
Aussie Burn Site
We will try and organise a burn for you, shouldn't be too hard.
For next 6 months we will bring the community together online and see what they want to do. Pretty sure they will be up for it.
Peace

Making use of ones national emblem
Making use of ones national emblem
At least we make use of our national emblem in a variety of cullinary ways. Australian's I believe are world leaders in this area being the first to actually serve up their national emblem on a dish, eventually the world will catch on and cook their eagles, kiwis (is there a meal there?)
It's not until you see how easy it is to catch your own roo with the front of your FJ Holden as you nibble on the prawns cruising accross the outback that you realise how lucky we are. They are a gift of course from mother nature and as a culinary sport beat the crap out of any couch based computer game.
We feel so strongly about gifting that it has entered the national psyche and as a result many Australians will go to the trouble of killing you a roo without even batting an eyelid, generously leaving their kanga carcass on the side of the road for others who drive mazda's, minis or other plastic gas guzzlers.
For those with finely honed tastes around May/June in most states these rooburgers can have a lovely mushroom saute if your prepared to look.
We are told Australia is the lucky country, I can see why. although we haven't got enough Kiwis here to be intelligent enough to understand the statement thoroughly. Still we bring more hoping for some enlightenment.
I personally think on probability it's because we are so far away from all you other bastards.
Ahh Orstralya, does somethin to you mate.:)

Wonderful to find burners in Oz! Having returned from BMC 07, am looking forward to making contact with others who have made the long trek to Navada. We, of course have perfected the art of burning stuff. We get to see thousands of square kilometers of bush going up in spectacular fashion every year in bushfire season. They even bring us video every night on the news. Plenty of precooked roo meat laid on! Anyone willing to email as I think I am a solo burner in this conservative rural outpost?
Can we not be the future we want?
Hey hey
I'm in Sydney and went to my first burn this year, looking forward to BRC 08 already!
BUT
first there is the MIGHTY BURNING DEMON festival in South Australia... it is on the Winter Solstice at the mutoid waste park in the Simpson desert.
This is full on survival - it's a free party, everyone's welcome, everybody is a participant so bring whatever you like.
It's gonna be more extreme survival than burning man though
- 60 km from nearest shop
- a LOT further away from nearest town/city
- smaller crowd, totally free so no communal organisation of infrastructure... YET! So get involved!

desert Burningman in OZ?...
My dears...
I have never been to Burningman in the States, but the concept of a Burn here in OZ is very exciting...
I would be keen to attend one here, is there any plans for one, i don't think it would take much organizing, we could keep it very low key, all we need to do is find a site that is available, then set a date, then start spreading the word...
the criteria as i see it is that the site would have to be remote, but accessable to all, perhaps far western NSW, south NT or northern SA?, any suggestions? This may be closer to the east coast then WA would want, but i am assuming that the majority of ppl's would be from the east?...
then there is the date?, as we all know the desert can be unforgiving during the day in summer, however, it can also be unforgiving at night in the winter, i think there could be a leaf to be taken out of Burningman USA, they have it in their autumn, may be we could do the same? perhaps the easter long wend?
so, that is my suggestion, is there any more input on this matter out there?...

putting together a burningman like todays event does takes alot of planning and you need a good core of people to pull it off. But as you can read from the many threads by some people, those that have been here from the start, on how the event has change some for the worst and some for the better. So its better to start small and keep it small.
I would come to Burningman and see first hand how this event is put together. contact the admin to see if you can volunteer. This way you get in early. Join a camp and do some research there. This way you can find out if you really want to put in the time to do an event like this.
Good Luck and Hope to see you next year.

i have to admit again that i have never been to a Burn, you could say that i have been a backseat driver of the Burn for 10 years, watching it on the website, in my defence i have been to two Confests and had a good and bad time at these events...
i guess i am saying that i am green at the whole event organising thing, but i have read the writings of Larry Harvey and notice that he was a green as i and others when he started Burningman in the State, in fact, to be honest, my understanding is that it was never the intent at the beginning fo the event to become what it is today, that happened along the way...
what am i trying to say?, i guess it is an observation in all, we seem to have lost our ability to dream!?, we always seem to be looking for examples of what has been done before and copying it, rather then just getting out there and doing it?...
that was my drive behind my first comment, we have a big country, we have ppl that are interested in driving long distances to attend a event, all we need now is the event, there are many already, the first Burningman in OZ could be small and built on from that?...
just my thoughts?...
