Hi, Joe. Couple of things:
  • 1. This board is the first impression you're making on a large number of people. Making a post that is twelve words long, with four of those words misspelled, is not a good way to start.
    2. The Q&A section of this board is designed for actual questions about preparing for the event. The "question" you asked with your poll is much better suited for the Open Discussion section.
    3. Are you aware that this is the 22nd Burn, and that there probably aren't many people other than The Man In The Hat himself who have been to all of them? And that fewer still of those people are likely to be active on this board?

If any of these things come as a surprise to you, you are far better off spending a few hours (if not days) reading this board before attempting to jump in. That's really the best way to integrate yourself into ANY online community, but this one in particular. Much like the playa itself, the ePlaya is exceedingly caustic. We (and I do include myself in this number) can be merciless with people who don't seem to understand how things work...and to be blunt, between this post and your post in the "Welcome" thread, you're really starting to look like one of those people.

Must be the gray hair. (And the better part of a decade on Usenet before this.)

Gray? I thought your hair would be purple!

I don't understand why the original posting only listed two choices-- 2006 was my first year, so, by default, it is both my most and least favorite year! (Actually, there were moments when I did think about taking off and going to Reno and getting a hotel room, and times when you couldn't have come up with enough money to pay me to do that, so "most and least favorite" would be a good description... :? [Now I have gone and confused myself. Going to go lie down for a while...! :P ])

It'll be purple by the time I get to the playa. One way or another. ;-) (Probably braids this year since, while the new job means I'll have the money to get it professionally purpled, I don't want to go to that kind of effort and expense when I'm almost certain I'd have to revert to something closer to human as soon as I went back to work.)

A perfect example of what I was attempting to convey in my response to the OP; while it feels like I've been going to the event forever (and I was on ePlaya for a year, possibly two, before I ever made it out there), my first burn was neither of the examples listed in the "poll."

There are more people who have been to many of these than you might think.
Or have I just had unusual luck running into them?
One person couldn't remember exactly how many.
Look for people out of uniform.

The man said "hi".

That should be all the explanation you need.
